Palin Pumps Up Numbers in Florida ... For Obama

Posted by Blue Texan, Firedoglake at 3:17 PM on September 9, 2008.

The McCain campaign can't be happy about this post-convention bounce.

Team McSame can't be happy about this.

Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are tied at 48 percent in a new Rasmussen poll conducted Sunday and released late Monday.

Before both parties held their conventions, an August Rasmussen poll showed McCain with a 46-43 lead in Florida.

48% is Obama's best showing yet in the Rasmussen, and McSame has had the lead in 8 of the past 9. And while it's true Palin's favorables are still strong there, and McSame is also up a couple points since last month, you've got to wonder how Pentecostal Palin is going to play in Boca:

If you want to know who’s going to win the presidential election, forget the polls and just ask your grandma how her friends in Boca are going to vote. Between Joe Biden’s popularity with older folks and supporters of Israel and Sarah Palin’s (put mildly) lack of Jewish cred, Florida may be up for grabs.

The McSame campaign had been counting on Lieberman and Crist to put McSame over the top, but what happens when Bubbe finds out about Jews for Jesus and Pat Buchanan?

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the Sarah The Rock Star has no immediate plans to campaign in the Sunshine State.

Hoping to flip some voters to his side, John McCain plans to campaign at a pancake breakfast in Jacksonville next week. The Republican presidential nominee has no formal agenda for the Monday event, but is expected to talk about issues including energy and the economy. McCain is scheduled to attend a Miami fundraiser later in the day.

Running mate Sarah Palin, who has generated much excitement in the GOP, won't be accompanying McCain on this visit. The campaign says she may visit the Sunshine State in coming months.

I won't hold my breath.

90% of Floridians live near the coast. Good luck selling them on erecting oil wells within viewing distance of their condos...Obama should start running ads with footage from Santa Barbara - oily beaches, flaring derricks in the sunset - pour it on.

And, unfortunately, there are too many of these aging idiots who appear to only think with their little head - and the "little lady" does what dick-head tells her to do.

How do I know? I live in one of the largest over 55 developments in Clearwater Florida - and the evidence is all around me all the time. They're ready to vote for one of their own - another geezer - no matter that he is a liar of nearly epic proportions - makes W. look like a Sunday School Teacher in the lies department.

While Miami is a cross between Havana and Haifa, the rest of the state is WASP, redneck and cracker - and they are widely known for voting against their own best economic interests while voting their deep seated hatred of blacks, Jews, and Gays and anyone who isn't WASP.

What has happened in the South since the Civil Rights Movement is that racism once blatant and pervasive has become hidden and pervasive. Very few will actually voice the fact that even though they are "Democrats" they will not vote for Obama because he is black.

Obama - good luck in Florida - 'cause you're gonna need all you can get.

John McCain will probably move the residents of Colorado City, Arizona, the largest polygamous enclave in America, to Washington DC so Sarah Palin feels at home with her down syndrome baby and pregnant teenage daughter.

I lived in Florida for twelve years. I loved it there. I was truly amazed how out of touch a lot of people were. They didn't seem to want progress at all.In the case concerning new oil wells off their shores I do agree that even I wouldn't want that situation. I think Obama has a very good chance in Florida.

Voter ID Match Law

Note that the state of Florida will reinstate enforecement of a controversal law rquiring voters to have an ID that matches a state data base . The efforts at voter suppression are strongly evident here .
I happen to have an exceptionally long last name and my wife has a rather long First name . This results in her first name being truncated many times on various data bases and sometimes they merely use her first initial . Needless to say in spite of her having voted in every election since 1962 under Florida law she could be deprived of her right to vote . Oh wait Justice Scalia doesn't think there IS right to vote a view shared by Chief Justice Roberts . There's REASON in itself to vote AGAINST McCain .
In my own case there is the question of the pesky middle initial which I NEVER use but is required on some applications . When in the service I didn't use it but was required to insert (n) whenever a middle initial was called for .
You have to hand it to Republicans they certainly have perfected the tactic of voter suppression over the past few elections : what with the infamous purge of convicted felons in florida and the misallocation of voting machines in Ohio . Interesting Florida has ignored a case TRUE voter fraud involving Ann Coulter who used her Real estate agents address

I Live in One of the Worst Redneck Cities in Florida...

...and I've noticed a recent phenomenon which I think bodes well for Obama/Biden. I don't see many McCain yard signs or bumper stickers around town. I also don't see any of the Bush/Cheney bumper stickers that many people sported in the previous elections (I know they're on their way out, but the bumper stickers have been gone for some time). Also, Democratic and Independent voter registrations are up in this county. I think people have finally awoken to the fact that they've been HAD. So, McCain/Palin, even with a Republican-controlled Florida legislature and Governor Crist, I don't believe you'll get quite the reception in Florida that you hope for. And, yes, Floridians as a whole do not want our beaches spoiled by drilling. I hear there's lots of oil in North Dakota, though, and if you look hard enough, you'll find it on the net, but it's certainly not getting much attention in the press.

Who is counting the votes in Florida this year. If it is the usual group, you can forget about any Democrats winning a close race.

Media should give deeper coverage of facts

It's time to get away from the mudslinging
approach to getting facts about this election.

I'm really tired of all the bashing that each
side is doing.

The media should have some sort of ongoing
chart that gives quotes from each Pres/VP
whenever they talk about an important issue.

Instead of quoting a candidate saying how much
their opponent is going to hurt our economy
or our country, they should specify how they
plan to get solutions to our problems -- give
actual details, not just generalizations,

I want to know facts, details about how each
candidate is going to help with our problems --
not just how much dirt they can dig up on
their opponent.

I have seen almost no plans that I can evaluate
as to what a candidate can/will do about
the critical issues -- enough of the name-calling -- show what you've got or stop yakking
about the other's shortcoming, we can figure
that out ourselves in due time.
