The Racist Returns: Don Imus Signs "Eight Figure, Multi Year Contract" With Top Radio Station

Morning Joe on The Return of Don Imus

This post, written by Rachel Sklar, originally appeared on The Huffington Post

Yesterday, Drudge boldly declared a resurrection: That of Don Imus, who has apparently struck an "eight-figure, multiyear contract" with WABC for the triumphant return of "Imus in the Morning" to the airwaves on what, according to Drudge, is "the nation's most listened to talk station." Obviously you will recall that the disgraced shock jock (and that's an occupation with a pretty low bar for 'disgrace') was ousted after calling members of the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos" in a double dose of racism and sexism.

You know the rest: Contrition tour with Al Sharpton; denouncement by high-profile former guests; cut loose by MSNBC on the TV side and CBS on the WFAN radio side; those last two aren't necessarily in chronological order. Then Imus had nothing left to do but slink into sad obscurity, right? Wrong -- he filed a $120 million lawsuit against CBS and settled for a reputed $20 million plus no restrictions on when he could go back on the air. Plus he couldn't say anything mean about Les Moonves. Hey, Moonves has his priorities straight.

And now, a "high-impact resurrection" -- a phrase that predates Drudge, incidentally, in a New York magazine profile by Robert Kolker titled "The Resurrection of Don Imus" and after the settlement was announced Imus' buddy Kinky Friedman* said: "He's very much like Jesus. He's coming back and boy is he PO'd." Well, apparently the meek shall inherit, albeit with a 40-second delay, just in case.

It's always interesting to hear what they have to say about it on "Morning Joe" -- the show which replaced "Imus in the Morning" on MSNBC, hosted by Joe Scarborough with Mika Brzezinski and the oft-joining Willie Geist; in August when the news of the settlement came down Scarborough went off on a tear, telling his producers to shut up when they suggested via his earpiece that he congratulate Imus on the air: "Like I've been on the Don Imus suck up train from the very beginning...Don Imus always hated my guts." Today's commentary was calmer -- less railing against th "sharks" of the TV industry -- but still fun, the video is to your right.

We're not sure exactly what Brzezinski was anticipating when she said "We're in trouble" but her hair is very smooth and shiny so perhaps she's safeThe gang also raised the big question of the day -- who would actually go back on Imus? (One wonders if it will be a question of dominoes, with one or two brave ones leading the way before everyone starts talking about bygones and forgiveness and airtime), and noted that Hillary Clinton probably wouldn't, per Drudge:

Imus is said to be particularly incensed by Senator Hillary Clinton's "shameless exploitation" of the Rutgers situation.

The senator, who Imus has called "Satan" and the "devil", traveled to Rutgers in April to praise the women's basketball team for its response to the controversy. In a campaign email, Hillary called Imus's comments "small-minded bigotry and coarse sexism."

"Hillary, prepare to meet your maker!" a source close to the host joked early Monday.

Nice to see everyone's learned from the events of last April.

The best line of the morning came later on, however, with the arrival of MSNBC pop culture contributor Courtney Hazlett: "In related news, Media Matters is hiring."

Digg!

I can think of nothing more racist than talking about a Spike Lee movie on the air.

Buffoons, bloviaters, haters, liars, stalkers, perverts.

Not only are they excellent models for our youth, but they keep us informed... about Brittany, patriotic lapel pins, haircuts, laughs, and such.

Yes, they keep us so informed. And the music they play-- it's only 10 years old, garaunteed it was a hit, or it's exactly like the talk-- hate filled gangster raps.

Imus is an asset to the corrupt media power brokers and their bottom lines that give a middle finger to everything America used to stand for.

The next time Imus smears someone will he get a few months out in the penalty box again? Like all the others, he's a pundit for a life term on the Supreme Court of the media, where the favored in crowd players are propped up to spew their vicious and vile venom until they croak, while the insiders sing their praises about what a swell guy he is in person and how much he gives to charity (tears in the eyes) and praising the Imus profane tirades as if they were poetry and wisdom to advance civilization.

Curtis & Kuby

I can only pray that this does not spell the Death Knoll for the Curtis & Kuby Show currently holding Forth on ABC . I am a huge fan of the show particularly Ron Kuby who is the only Liberal on ABC . I was not a big fan of Ron's initially but have grown to appreciate his well reasoned replies to Curtis's rants . I would love to see him take on Rush or Sean but they would NEVER have the guts to do that . Sean is only comfortable shouting over poor hapless Allan Colmbs and Rush won't have anyone on his show who presents the other side . If perchance one should slip through his screener he will quickly dismiss them as being Liars and/or Phony Soldiers .
Sadly ABC shoves more and more right wing opinions down our collective airways . They even corrupted the likeable John Gambling Jr who has become little more than an echo chamber for the Administration . I used to love him on WOR and was stunned when they let him go .
I think NOTHING so obviously illistratres the need for the return of the fairness doctrine than WABC lineup

You would expect something wholesome on ABC TV from the Disney Corporation? Think again!

PROPAGANDA IS HIS PURPOSE

You don't think that he is any worse or better at propaganda today than he was yesterday. The republicans need the white racist vote. Don Imus is their man.

Lyndon Johnson really did tell the truth when he said he had lost the south for the democratic party for a generation. He had just signed the civil rights act. His domestic policy was good. His foreign policy was bad.

Any good honest man holds Don Imus in contempt. This contempt spills over on all republicans. The truly honest and moral people in the United States are democrats.

George Bernard Shaw:

I am a brigand and a thief. I steal from the rich.

I'm glad to meet you. I am a gentleman. I steal from the poor.

This man should spend his last days

This man should spend his last days doing something more constructive than spreading his misery and bitterness. To be totally honest, I was always thought him going off on a tirade about the looks and suppose character of those women were a bit missed placed especially for a man who himself looks like he’s got one foot in the grave and Viagra wouldn't even help his impotence.
