Rachel Maddow Shreds McCain's 'Very Bad Day'

Posted by Faiz Shakir, Think Progress at 10:19 AM on September 17, 2008.

Maddow: McCain’s economic gaffe capped 'a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day on the campaign trail.'

Yesterday, TP’s Wonk Room reported that John McCain committed an economic gaffe when he referred to the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) as the S-P-I-C. Moreover, McCain called the “SPIC” a regulatory agency, which the non-profit corporation’s own website explicitly says it is not. Last night, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow reported on the gaffe, citing it as just one example of McCain’s “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day on the campaign trail.” Watch it:

The McCain campaign has since scrubbed the transcript of McCain’s gaffe.

But McCain campaign spokesman, Tucker Bounds, confirmed the typo to the New York Sun. Bounds made clear that McCain’s use of “SPIC” was not meant as a derogatory insult to Hispanics. “No one, and I mean no one, should read anymore into it,” he said. “It would be absurd to suggest otherwise.” It did, however, confirm McCain doesn’t know much about the economy.

Digg!

Cause it is getting worse for McCain not every day but every HOUR. This is the most wonderful, fabulous, very good, exciting election EVER!

I used to read the no good very bad day book to my kids. For those that haven't read it, it's a great one.

I sent this to Rachel, Chris and Keith last night.

For you and for them, my favs on msnbc!

I think this (below) explains better than anything else exactly WHY Obama is so appealing to so many voters. Of course there are many reasons, but it is too simple to say he is eloquent or thoughtful, which of course he is. But it is so much more! This quote sums it up in my opinion, better than anything else I have heard. This is why Barack has the best grassroots campaign in history. This is why 500,000 new small donors joined his campaign in August. Every single one of us, MILLIONS and MILLIONS of us will be hitting the streets, winning hearts and minds, and getting the vote out for Barack.

For Chris Matthews:

Chris, I love ya, and I know your worried, but please let Barack be Barack. He really does know what he is doing. That's why I send him money every month. I'm not the least worried. He is a once in a life-time candidate. There has never been anything like his grassroots campaign. It's all going to be ok, it's going to be SPECTACULAR! So chill. And it's just getting interesting.

God bless all of you. Keep up the good work! You are all excellent, brilliant and beautiful! We are lucky to have you and I am very grateful. This is the best election EVER!

Very kindest regards,

Deb

A hopeless news and political junkie

One of the first one million small donors to Barack Obama for president!

Edwin H. Friedman:

Communication does not depend on syntax, or eloquence, or rhetoric, or articulation but on the emotional context in which the message is being heard.

People can only hear you when they are moving toward you, and they are not likely to when your words are pursuing them.

Even the choicest words lose their power when they are used to overpower.

Attitudes are the real figures of speech.

I've had my morning tea, brushed my teeth, made several calls to the msnbc comment line, mostly to leave messages giving reasons to fire Joe Scarbourough. MAN that guy makes me want to scream and throw bad fruit at the tv. But it's news and interviews and opinions, especially about the election, so it has to be done.

Have a great day!

The American Dream is failing because the American Dream has become the world's nightmare.

The American Dream is failing because the American Dream has become the world's nightmare.

If we have to deal with John 'Dubya II' McCain and his sidekick, Sarah “my god can kick your god’s ass” Palin, we can expect more of the same mindless light on brains, heavy on bombs, ignore/destroy the economy.

Remember, the asshole America elects is usually the one who ends up shitting all over the planet.

Vote McCain/Palin and build a bomb shelter
