Phil Gramm Returns to McCain's Side

Posted by Faiz Shakir, Think Progress at 4:16 AM on August 15, 2008.

Apparently they think that was enough time for America to forget that he called us a "nation of whiners."

Phil Gramm, who stepped down from the McCain campaign after revealing that he believed America had become a “nation of whiners,” is “back with the campaign’s top advisers this weekend.” Gramm was seated in the front row during a McCain event in Aspen, Colorado today. “I am a supporter of John McCain,” said Gramm. “I am helping him with fundraising. We have a fundraiser today and I will be with him today and tomorrow.”

Gramm has been rumored to be a possible candidate for Treasury Secretary if McCain wins.

Given the age of McCain and the very real possibility that he will need a lot of help running his administration if we are so trgically unfortunate to be strapped with him in the White House, are the kinds of people he will bring with him. I will venture to say that they will be every bit as wretched as what Bush II brought with him. The same kinds of loybbyists who have since departed his campaign will in all liklihood be re-assigned somewhere in his cabinet or highly placed department positions, we will have slimy Phil Graham who helped engineer the current mortgage mess and out of the woodwork will march Charlie Black who hopes for another terror attack before the election.

What are voters thinking of even contemplating this guy?

As a Life long liberal Dem- I must admit I miss the Ol' school Republicans- fiscal responsiblity, small Gov't (involvemet in our lives), limited international interference...OH the good Ol' days of bean counters and real Patriotism (US before others interests- ie Duel citizenship with Israel in Public service offices)
Funny I find I could agree with them -or at least find a compromise - on so many issues, if we could just get rid of hte Corporationists who have infiltrated both our parties. Neo cons & DLC'ers- same shit, same goals, different camoflague.
think maybe some are getting theclue they have been used by these Corp'ists who have no allegeince to US or our future. Lots of Republicans are 'unable' to attend the convention (Not to include those who are not from public disgrace reasons). One being a opponent to the War in Iraq and a critic of this admin. One who has proven his patriotism by being in the middle of the fray in vietnam and not having the benefit of an Admiral as a dad. One who has been a friend and advocate for Vets, farmers, teachers, autistic children..One who has said he will not seek another term as a republican. One who went as part of a bipartisan tour with Obama. One who has given his support to policies which Obama has been speaking about. One who could aid US in ending the strangle hold Cheney & Clinton Corps have had on our nation. One who could rejuvenate the Republican party's real doctrine and bring Independents towards Obama. One who would prove when it comes to what is best for American, what bipartisanship really means, what it is to be a public servant & a patriot....One who knows such things and that Our country is truely color blind when it ocmes to these American Values.....
