McCain Makes the Case Against Himself

Posted by Faiz Shakir, Think Progress at 3:04 PM on October 13, 2008.

Next President "won’t have the luxury of studying up on the issues."

During a campaign rally this afternoon, John McCain made this observation:

The next President won't have time to get used to the office. He won't have the luxury of studying up on the issues before he acts.

"We cannot spend the next four years as we have spent much of the last eight, waiting for our luck to change," McCain added. "The hour is late. Our troubles are getting worse. Our enemies watch." Watch it:

McCain's statement could not be a more damaging indictment of himself. As he has acknowledged repeatedly, he doesn't know much about the economy and "still needs to be educated" on it:

- "I'm going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated." [Wall Street Journal, 11/26/05]

- "The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should...I've got Greenspan's book." [Boston Globe, 12/18/07]

- "In the interest of full disclosure, I didn't pay nearly the attention to those issues in the past...I was probably a 'supply-sider' based on the fact that I really didn't jump into the issue." [The New Republic, 1/31/00

Just last month, McCain proposed a plan to outsource dealing with the economy. The Washington Post reported, "Sen. John McCain on Tuesday proposed a commission to study the economic crisis along the lines of the one that investigated the Sept. 11 attacks."

More recently, the McCain campaign has tried to "turn the page" on the economy and has stated, "If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we're going to lose."

Digg!

Ahhh... Republicans...

They are your worst enemies... they are my worst enemies... and now they are their own worst enemies.

It is good to know that we are all free to despise them... but who has the time? I have more important things to do... like thinking about whether I need to try to find a second job.

Noticing that McCain contradicts his own previous statements is only possible if you remember what he said before.

Mass media scrub events as fast as they occur, molding them into myths and memes and infotainment.

Instead of people who are practiced in critical thinking and capable of sustaining a viable democracy, we have a grotesque parody of that ideal.

Watching this go on feels like riding a ship with no rudder.

Please Mac Knows Economics, he is just playing stupid so no one will recall he got his Bachelors in Economics from the University of Keating . His Masters degree at Enron and His PhD from His private tutorial by Phil Gramm.
Oh Jon McCain KNOWS Economics and how to Use it to Conquer a Country...Does his slogan mean US First then the Rest of the World- are we just the Top of the List for Destruction?
John Mccain should not Be addressing Rallies, he should be Addressing A Jury regarding his Sentence for THIS High Crime of Treason. First in a Series of High Crime Charges!

No Democratic candidate could have voiced a more damning indictment of the current administration; yet McCain is standing on a stage announcing that "I KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS--"
What--did he just have an epiphany and suddenly he knows how to fix it all--the war, the economy, the housing crisis, the banks, the......well, but all alongI thought little George was the one who had a direct pipeline to God and therefore had to be right about everything. And Cheney--everyone knows he has a pact with the devil...apparently he has already departed for the nether regions, since he hasn't been seen or heard from during this presidential campaign...

Don't know much biology.
Don't know much about the French I took..."
(Or economics, either, for that matter). But if you only will elect me..."what a wonderful world this will be." What we need, more than experience, is honesty, Senator McCain. And I'm just not feelin' it from you.

So now we are back to "Obama is too inexperienced " as the theme of the campaign . So how does Palin look based on THAT criteria .
God love Sarah she is really Bush in a dress . She lies with a smile on her lips and a twinkle in her eye . Witness her comment on the Trooper gate report . She claims the report cleared her of BOTH any wrong doing and any Ethics abuse . The report did say she had an absolute right to fire Monnegan BUT it also said she was GUILTY of violating a state ethics law by exerting pressure on Monnegan to fire trooper Wooten and said it was likely in contributing factor in his removal .

Presidents Understand Issues?

It would be nice to have a President again who actually understands some of the issues. Between Flipper Bush and Flopper McCain all in depth issues are over their heads.

Mcbumblewit is in his dotage, and slowly unravelling as his incoherent " campaign" staggers along. I think Obama should put him out of his misery and administer the coup de grace Wednesday night. We need to stop worrying about this nut possibly going to the White House.
