Newt Gingrich: Republicans Face Real Disaster

Posted by Cliff Schecter, Cliff Schecter's Blog at 4:30 AM on May 8, 2008.

Republicans face tough times at the polls this November.

What? The hyper-organized, disciplined, get-out-the-message, self-righteous Republicans are in trouble? Quick! Call for help! Look up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… it’s … ::cricket, cricket::

Shellshocked House Republicans got warnings from leaders past and present Tuesday: Your party’s message isn’t good enough to prevent disaster in November, and neither is the NRCC’s money.

Oh no! What’s a Republican to do? Ooo! Ooo! I know! Pick me! Solution: Every man for himself!

The double shot of bad news had one veteran Republican House member worrying aloud that the party’s electoral woes — brought into sharp focus by Woody Jenkins’ loss to Don Cazayoux in Louisiana on Saturday — have the House Republican Conference splitting apart in “everybody for himself” mode.

This is one dire situation. There’s gotta be a superhero around here somewhere. Wait! Who’s that undressing in that phone booth? Why, it’s Newt “Looks-Unappealing-In-Tights” Gingrich!

In a piece published in Human Events, the Republicans’ onetime captain, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, warned his old colleagues that they face “real disaster” on Election Day unless they move immediately to “chart a bold course of real reform” for the country.

Some superhero. Put your suit and tie back on, Newt, I’m starting to feel a little queasy. And don’t forget your pants this time. O-ohhh, having trouble squeezing out of that tiny phone booth?

And in a closed-door session at the Capitol, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) told members that the NRCC doesn’t have enough cash to “save them” in November if they don’t raise enough money or run strong campaigns themselves…

But Cole’s overall message was clear, said members who sat through the meeting: “If you’re not out doing your own work, and you’re waiting for the NRCC to come in at the last minute and save you, it ain’t gonna happen.” That’s how one lawmaker characterized Cole’s talk, adding that the NRCC is “not going to have the resources” to help all members “and Democrats will have a lot more money.”

Republicans are suffering a crisis of confidence after the two special election losses. There’s talk that House Minority Leader John A. Boehner and other GOP leaders could be ousted if the party suffers double-digit losses in November.

Boehner, turn in your cape. You’ve been Kryptonited Democrat-nited. Hold on! Someone’s calling Newt on the FatPhone! Awww, bad news:

“The Republican brand has been so badly damaged that if Republicans try to run an anti-Obama, anti-Rev. Wright or, if Sen. Clinton wins, anti-Clinton campaign, they are simply going to fail,” Gingrich said. “This model has already been tested with disastrous results.”

So who can the Republicans turn to? Who can swoop in and save them? Why, who better than Lame Duck Man!

House Republicans will hold a rally with President Bush on Wednesday morning, with all 199 members invited to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. to show solidarity with the president, according to GOP sources.

Okay, that’s a wrap. Strike the phone booth. Anyone wanna buy a used cape?

Digg!

Senator Clinton is determined to help McCain win if she is not nominated. The republicans want her to be nominated because that will unite and inspire their supporters. Remember, the Scafe (he was a leader of the campaign to impeach President Clinton)newspaper in Pittsburgh supported Senator Clinton and she thanked them.

this surprise anyone (especially Republicans)? They all seem to govern from somewhere right of the lunatic fringe, so it makes sense. One can hope that the exiles will learn that cannot govern a nation while catering to the needs of a small, rich and white corporate class, while using the religiosity of others against them (read: All those Evangelicals–I am referring here to the true believers, not the thunder whores–you've been used).

And the thing is, the price has been relatively cheap for the Republicans too. I mean, throw a few 'God this' and 'God that' in your speeches, offer a few 'faith-based efforts' while the public coffers are opened to their corporate cronies.

Sweet deal. The Evangelicals actually think the Republicans give a shite, while the Republicans rob the government blind.

This is also why it is that Republicans are generally the people talking about voter fraud. They know that, all things being considered, they cannot win an election fairly. So they do whatever they can, within and outside the law, to create barriers for people to exercise the right to vote.

After all, I never said that Republicans were stupid. They definitely understand that every vote counts, and in a close contest their scheming can deliver the presidency.

It is somewhat similar to the relationship that the Democratic party has to African-American voters, though unlike in the Republican party, a day of reckoning is rapidly approaching.

And it's name is Obama.

By that I mean his nomination is a done deal. Hillary is just flailing at this point, and besides, when Obama (if trends continue as they are) gets the Democratic nod, he will get virtually all of the African-American vote-a remarkable achievement in and of itself–and a greater portion of the White vote than many suspect (though this obviously will vary from state to state).

Though I think the really surprise will come with the Hispanic vote, which I suspect will help to shore up any weaknesses in getting the White vote.

Here is a bold new direction for ya, Newt... why don't you try NOT being corrupt, NOT lying with every breath, NOT trying to manipulate everything possible for the benefit of your party with no regard for the good of the country, NOT embracing whackjob preachers and amoral political idealogues. Why don't you try being statesmen first and republicans second.

You mean the Neo Cons who Stole the Republican Party?

Teh Republican party was gutted in th e'80's with the Neo Cons who seized it from them. The same has been happening to the Democratic party by way of the DLC memebers (started 1984- How prophetic of Orwell).
I had wondered where this misnomer of 'Reagan Democrats ' had come from- Now I know and having seen a list of members of the DLC I know Who are the covert operatives who are in allegience with the Neo Cons. Some interesting names appear which expalins why I have been confused at times whether I'm listening to a some who sound like Neo con in the Dem Party. wonder why Hillary has been using Tactics right out of the 'Rovian' Play book, wonder why she would Proclaim she'd 'Obliterate Iran' using Nukes (even though they do not have WMD's either) wonder why Harold Ford wants her to be considered for Obama's VP position, why Fenstein has rolled over and played Dead for so long, why Liebermann only jumped ship half way and supports the likes of the 'Armegeddon'advocate Hagee (Joe is not only a traitor to the Dem party- he's a traitor to his own religion).Teh list is intrigueing and Extremely enlightening.
It's time for Real Republicans and REAL democrats to kick these Sociopaths out of Our parties- Get your own and be exposed to the light- Call it 'End of Days' Corporationist- it expalins why you don't give a crap about mankind Now, nor in the future. No need for further explanation of your guiding 'principles' nor Agenda. Good bye Treaonous, war Crimes and Crimes against Humanity Criminals- you are out of Power and Out of Camoflague!

For the last 28 years, the repugwicans have been screwing everybody, especially the working class, panadering to Pastor Strangelove and company, Cutting taxes for the very rich, removing any protections the consumer may have had against the all powerful Corporate world, Destroyed labor unions, and on and on. In a never ending quest to make the rich richer, and the poor poorer. Establishing an Aristocratic class to lord over the rest of us.

The new Repugwican Feudelism, back to the DARK AGES.

Seems the public has finally seen the light, and they don't like what the see. The Repugwican philosophy has bankrupted this country, and the Public is not happy. The Repugwican philosphy was BS to begin with.

So Newt, you and your fellow Repugwicans deserve what you get, you get to reap what you have sown for the last 28 years.

The nomination of McCain spoke volumes about what direction the party chose to go in. Unfortunately for them, they don't have a good candidate this time around.

Some republican insiders anonomously regard McCain as a horrible candidate. His sound bites alone will do him in along with the economy.

DO YOU THINK I'M NOT IN TROUBLE. DO YOU HAVE A GUESS WHO THE CONGRESSMAN FROM MY DISTRICT IS?

It is Tom Cole. They gerrymandered a district for him. The DNC gave him $1,000,000 to run his last campaign. His democratic opponent had $30,000. Even then the democrat got 28% of the vote.

I'm seriously considering moving out. Tom Cole votes RNC every time. He doesn't need a mind. Besides, if he were to lose the election he has a job waiting in Washington.

Did you ever wonder what the worst job in the United States is going to be next year? I'm going to suggest that it will be the job of the secret service agents assigned to look after George Bush. They won't be able to tell if its just plain hatred or a serious threat to his life. Maybe, just this once, congress should make an exception and let George just care for himself. He never has cared about us. Turn about would be fair play.

I don't believe that the Repubs think they can loose. It's a trick to get us all to lay back and think everything is in the bag. My bother & I played this game with each other. I quit, I quit. boo hoo hoo...Then WHAM the one that gave in would jump up and double attack the other. No Way am I betting they believe it's over. They have plenty of other tricks up their dark scarry sleeves . Newt won't give it up and neither will W or the other Zionist freaks!!!
