Iraq's 80,000 Angry Men and the Collapse of the Surge [VIDEO]

It turns out Iraqis don’t like to be raided at gunpoint, detained and tortured, or withheld pay for risking their lives. Who knew!?

America has a history of mistreating the locals fighting on their side. Our giant clusterfuck in Iraq has little to do with not understanding the cultures in the region, and everything to do with simply not respecting them as fellow human beings. You don’t need a master’s degree in Near and Middle Eastern Studies to know that Iraqis don’t like to be raided at gunpoint, detained and tortured, or withheld pay for risking their lives. Meanwhile, the myth of a successful “surge” continues to work to the political advantage of American imperialists as it paves over any critical analysis of the conflict.

An investigation carried out by GuardianFilms for Channel 4 uncovers how thousands of Iraqis employed at $10 a day by the US to take on al-Qaida are threatening to go on strike because they say they have been used by the ‘Americans to do their dirty work’ and haven’t been paid.

Why would the American public have any interest in daily life in Iraq ? They have more pressing matters to address. Clinton may have lied 20 yrs. ago, her choice of pansuits, a Chicago pastor who gets far too much attention and a candidate who handles a rough patch in his campaign by going off to St. Thomas. What surge, they ask. Going to war was an easy sell for George & Dick. Getting people to care is another matter. They clearly can't be bothered. Thanks, ANNA

Reneging on promised payments, arming former enemies, paying off Muqtada Al Sadr.... who thinks this crap up?
These "Awakening Groups" will disintegrate, Al Sadr will end his truce and Americans will be used for target practice. Most of this carnage will be done with American arms and money. Our tax dollars will be used to kill our Troops. Ironic, huh?
If you don't think Cheney/Bush are criminals by now.......

that coverage by the MSM on the Iraq situation has sunk to less than 5% of the news coverage. 4,000 dead and only 5%. Down from a measly 15% last year.

This should be leading story, front-page news every day until we bring our troops home!

Poppy encouraged the Kurds to fight against Saddam Hussein and then abandoned them to their fate at his hand.

What I question about this video (which unfortunately makes the rest of it questionable as well) is the voice-over saying that Usama bin Laden issued an edict 3 months ago against pro-U.S. activity among Iraqis.

bin Laden is dead. Has probably been dead for years. Benazir Bhutto said so in a televised interview with David Frost in the UK two weeks before she was assassinated, even named his killer. It was posted on Alternet.

Enough with the bin Laden bullshit, everyone knows he's dead otherwise there would (should) be an active campaign to find him but there hasn't been one since the invasion of Afghanistan.

As though a man dying of kidney failure could orchestrate the most devastating coup on foreign soil since Hiroshima and Nagasaki from a cave so remote we can't begin to find it.

Let's not forget that he was our ally in our covert war against the Russians in Afghanistan.

Why should anyone be surprised, they treat immigrants to this country the same damn way. Work them to death and not pay them. Here, they just deport them, there in Iraq, they can simply kill them. Much easier for the powers that be. What a crime!

I have been posting this super important video all over the net at my Stumble Upon site, http://tjtele.stumbleupon.com, and my blogspot site http://nationalizeoilallenergy.blogspot.com, 3 times at the Daily Kos..under two diaries I did there and again as a comment on something related..and emailed it around..as well..to C-span Journal a number of times..

I got this from The Real News and it is by The Guardian..but most important it is a chance to hear from these Sunni men who turned from fighting and killing Americans as well as other Iraqis Shiia mostly to fighting al-Qaeda and kicking butt at that turning the tide in Iraq to a great degree..

This was perhaps the only good positive occurrence since the toppling of Saddam to come out of Iraq in years and what does the United States do what does General Petreaus do what does G.W Bush do..?

They stiff these Sunni men of the lousy $10 per day they were getting for turning the tide in Iraq..$300 per month less than a single Blackwater Greystone son of a bitch gets for one day..!

$10 per day when we are pissing away $12 per month in that sand trap of Iraq..

Were we to pay them all 80,000 back pay asap it would come to less than 1/2 of one billion or less than a 5th of what we piss away in a month..!

Is General Petreaus not a man of his word is he a Republican dead beat..don't the lives of our Troops his Troops mean anything to him..?

Why isn't Congress and the entire Senate blowing their tops of this stupidity and miserable miserly incompetence that reflects so badly upon every American as well as endangers not only or troops but every contractor in Iraq from every nation of the so called coalition..!

I hope everyone sends this to their elected representatives and beats them over the head with it so to speak..!

The Surge is going to fail for $10 per day..this was the biggest factor of the so called success of the Surge I watch that twirp O'Hannlon and Pollack and Kagan at the AEI today on C-span and talking their usual Maird out their butts but not one mentioned this so everything they said there was meaningless ill-informed gaga stupid gogo to impress Wolfowitz that sleazy idiot who was sitting there eating this stuff up along with others and this is the whole deal the enchilada it goes back to the days of Rome and Washington and his Continental army pay the army or Legion or you'll lose it or it will turn on you..!

Simple as that..

Bravo Alternet..!

Do you phone or write to the media with your concerns? Have you ever thought of phoning and writing to CNN and MSNBC and other media every single day to tell them what you expect from them? or to praise the journalists and broadcasters (like Olbermann) that ARE trying to 'get it right'? They ARE out there, MANY of them!

How many of you phone or write to Nancy Pelosi or other dems to tell them you are with them on ending this war, rebuilding Iraq while bringing our military safely home? Do you ever tell the media and elected representatives you really care about our vets and their needs?

Just tell them to do their frigging jobs! We don't need to know about Britney! We don't need to hear about O.J.! I don't care if Spitzer keeps his socks on when he has sex!

Damn! Be nice or scream at them but TELL THEM!

MSNBC/NBC ask for comment line:

While you're at it tell them to fire Buchanan's ass!

David Gregory - Race08 on MSNBC - Leave a concise question for his panel:

CNN, you can leave a message and even talk to a live person if you don't mind waiting a few minutes:

Conyers Says He's on Edge of Starting Impeachment
AfterDowningStreet.org
By David Swanson

On Thursday, Chairman John Conyers' House Judiciary Committee held a hearing at which Attorney General Michael Mukasey said that he would not investigate torture (video) or warrantless spying (video), he would not enforce contempt citations (video), and he would treat Justice Department opinions as providing immunity for crimes (report).

None of this was new, but perhaps it touched something in Conyers that had not been touched before. Following the hearing, he and two staffers met for an hour and 15 minutes with two members of Code Pink to discuss impeachment.

Conyers expressed fear of what might happen following an impeachment, fear of installing a Bush replacement or losing an election. The "corporate power structure", he said, would not allow impeachment without unleashing "blowback." Conyers told Ellen Taylor and Manijeh Saba: "You need to be more than brave and courageous. You need to be smart."

Their response? They are asking people who care about justice to help them let Conyers know that the smart thing right now would be bravery and courage.

Let's push Conyers over the edge by flooding his office with phone calls, faxes, and Emails on Monday and Tuesday. Let him know that only impeachment hearings
convince voters that Democrats care about the Constitution.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, but be nice, she has one hell of a job!

MAKE THEM DO IT! Call morning noon and night if you have free long distance, JUST DO IT!

This is what grassroots is all about.

"Why should we hear about body bags, and deaths...I mean, it's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

~First Lady Barbara Bush spoke these words on ABC's "Good Morning America," March 18, 2003
