FEC Decides that the First Amendment Actually Applies to Bloggers

We bloggers are media! We get to exercise our rights to free speech! Who knew? Well, since we’ve had those rights for a couple hundred years, so I knew. The Federal Election Commission, however, has seen fit to confirm my rights as a blogger to write about . . . politics! Yes, even if I commit the sin of favoring a candidate!

Heck, you can even be political and all that stuff. Nope, you don't need any stinking "freedom of speech" to give you these rights. The FEC has assured them. The whole case evidently extends from a whine by the Clinton campaign against a blog in Iowa advocating for Barack Obama. The report on this action is from mediapost.com:

The agency said last week it dismissed a complaint by a Hillary Clinton supporter alleging that a pro-Barack Obama blog was actually "a direct arm" of the Obama campaign, and therefore subject to campaign finance restrictions.

In its ruling, the FEC reiterated that whatever costs are incurred by running a political blog need not be disclosed as a campaign contribution. "Political blogging is exactly the type of Internet activity that the Commission exempted from the definition of 'contribution' and 'expenditure,'" the FEC stated.

The complaint was brought last October by Clinton supporter Kirk Tofte, who alleged that the blog Iowa True Blue, operated by former Iowa Democratic Party chairman Gordon Fischer, had coordinated with Obama's campaign. Tofte alleged that Fischer endorsed Obama in September, after which he began posting critical items about Clinton.

Such intense whining hurts my ears, even just to read it. I suppose it is past time to bash Hillary Clinton's campaign, but don't you think it a bit unAmerican to complain about someone exercising his free speech? But, wait, wait. . . John McCain has stolen a lot from the Hillary Clinton campaign as far as strategy is concerned. He could steal this whiney strategy of trying to silence pro-Obama bloggers from her campaign, right?

God knows I've been negative about McCain, except for admiring his service (did you know he served as a POW and was tortured?), these last few months. If I were to be conservative and bill my time working against McCain, and therefore for Obama, I'd likely calculate a contribution of tens of thousands of dollars added up these last few months. At $50 per hour, I would have billed about $75 for Obama already this morning. Yeah, based on such calculations I've probably maxed out or something. There's the angle McCain and his campaign will use to attempt to silence bloggers who are critical of him. You read it here first.

Free speech? It sure is fun, isn't it?

No, he was only 'interrogated in an enhanced manner', no longer considered torture by the United States federal government.

By his own vote he said it was not torture. I'm having a hard time finding the logical argument for that again to give proper credit to the author, but I did read it this morning.

Basically HE VOTED so what was done to him, considered torture by everyone, is no longer called torture and can be done to 'bad' guys on the mere supposition of the interrogators.

Now that Corsi is fully discredited, I see he is being tied to the 9/11 'conspiracy' by the NY Times.

They should be careful, the idea that the 9/11 conspiracy includes American citizens in high places of political and media power covering up the deliberate dropping of the buildings with explosives, has more credibility then the NY Times itself does these days. Oops, LOL.

It's never to late to expose the Clintons..They have been working out of the corporationsit handbook (and piggy bank) for decades. This Ol'Clintonian began to wake up as soon as Hillary started voting in the Senate. Not a surprise that their group of minions took form as the DLC in 1984- Double Speak anyone?
They first showed their Corp Owned 'ethics' when they allowed Carter to be minimalized- allowed the CheneyCorp personality assasination to continue. Why because their ambition has always been to overtake the real Dem party platform and crown themselve the bearers of Blue...nothing more than neo CONs
How long have you been 'serving' this country Hill- about as long as womens issues have been circling the drain? Funny no indignate 'Femninist' were to be found when Mosley Braun was running-Did NOW even support her?Did they sound the Historical bell then..NO!Hillary cut out White females from all Womens issues, she part & parcelled out white womens issues from minority issues..She intentionally gutted Equal Rights for All!
I now have to not only reassure my male associates I do not need rules changed or any bar lowered to compete, I have to expalin to other minorities Women are still interested in seeking Equal opportunities for All People! We give birth to both boys & girls, in all colors, ethnic & religious backgrounds and sexual orientations!!!
After 8 yrs of being an avid defender of the Clintons in the'90's, I have become a avid opponent (Hater) of both!they can Kiss My life long liberal BLUE ASS!God Damned arrogant self promoting Corporationist- the Blue arm of CheneyCorp!
Hillary has injected HER Whore allegiences into Obamas campaign- 'Take them or have them work against You'??She has been drooling since Mac Promised HER (and THEIR corp sponsors)that he would only run one term...She is delirious with anticipation for '12.Funny she can't find the 18 million voters she says she has to cough up a $1.25 each to settle her unwarranted debt! She sounds like Beare Sterns- investors when the money's flowing their way, but nowhere to be found when the bill comes-obviously she can't manage finances either- Addicted to 'Credit'.She trying to suck money away from Obamas' small donors,so he is more reliant on her Corp bundle donors ...undermining his campaign financing call for Change.
It must be made Clear to the Clintons, they are History..Part of the destructive, corp owned embarassment which will remain Crap left behind in the 20th century-the Century of Corporate and Moral Treason
Wipe the Drool off your Chin and put your tongue back in your mouth Hillary..You ain't getting '12,either!!!

OK, I go to C-span to see what is going on today.

There is supposed to be a FCC hearing but when I click on that I get the wrong program. It starts off with this bizarre woman talking trash about people.

Yeah, well that was weird, but folks make mistakes, the hearing hasn't happened yet and the wrong link is posted. I'm getting used to seeing what I consider really bad quality control at C-span. It happens.

After checking back repeatedly I finally decide to look her up, Tammy Bruce. From a quick view of her google results I not impressed. After a while I wonder why...

why did that happen? In 'intelligence' (spy work) there are no accidents.

So, I wonder why Corporate-span posts an interview of a woman dissing people instead of an FCC hearing. It has disappeared off the schedule now altogether. They are so 1984 memory hole on a regular basis. C-span is NOT to be trusted.

Contact form. Here was my note:

My question is, Why are you covering up for this administration?

I am a victim of the illegal spy program the Bush administration (and you) have put in place. I have been targeted for my religion as have so many other American citizens. This is wrong and impeachment is necessary.

I have submitted a form to my congresswoman and her office has passed it on to the FBI. I have been blogging my experience in AlterNet so even if something happens to me, my testimony is already out there.

It was part of my plan to end the drug war. I know you know about it, a political and religious movement. You have jacked some of my ideas, but not given me credit or carried through.

My question is, Why are you covering up for this administration?
