Fox News' Shepard Smith Uncensored: 'We Are America, We Do Not F**king Torture!'

Posted by Nico Pitney, Huffington Post at 7:40 AM on April 23, 2009.

"They better not do it," he said. "If we are going to be Ronald Reagan's Shining City on the Hill, we don't get to torture. We don't do it."

Fox News viewers witnessed a rather incredible scene on Wednesday as anchor Shepard Smith and Fox contributor Judith Miller (of CIA leak infamy) repeatedly and passionately condemned torture, with Smith declaring at one point, "We are America, we don't torture! And the moment that is not the case, I want off the train! This government is of, by, and for the people -- that means it's mine. That means -- I'm not saying what is torture, and what is not torture, but I'm saying, whatever it is, you don't do it for me! I want off the train when the government starts -- I want off, next stop, now!"

The full segment is worth a watch. And Smith felt strongly enough about the issue to speak out about it again as he was heading into commercial break.

"They better not do it," he said. "If we are going to be Ronald Reagan's Shining City on the Hill, we don't get to torture. We don't do it." Fade to black.

(Big thanks to HuffPost Media Monitor Rosemary from Massachusetts for the tip.)

Watch the segment (Smith's comments above begin at about 3:45):

On FoxNews.com's online show The Strategy Room, Smith took his opposition to a whole other level. "We are America!" he shouted, slamming his hand on the table. "I don't give a rat's ass if it helps. We are AMERICA! We do not fucking torture!!"

Digg!

Just when I was thinking most of the Republicans were going to wholeheartedley going to jump off the cliff collectively. That man passionately believes in the same thing I do, AMERICA DOES NOT FUCKING TORTURE!!!

I will stand side by side with that man, at least on this issue, and God help anyone we catch running our country through that filth.

Smith's phony indignation

It is hard to believe Smith is sincere in his condemnation of torture in light of his comments:
"If we are going to be Ronald Reagan's Shining City on the Hill, we don't get to torture. We don't do it."

Reagan's 'Shining City' was held liable for state sponsored terrorism against Nicaragua.

Inquistors, Nazi's & Pol Pot wihin their Rights?

Seems the Repugs are argueing a very twist 'logic'.
There is a reason the Spanish Inquistion holds such revulsive connotations, same with the 3rd Reich and Cambodia's Pol Pot regime. Nodoubt they all proclaimed their actions were justifiable in defense against enemies- but they ahve been since judged as heinous crimes regardless.this 'Ticking bomb' scenario is exactly the same kind of legitimization attempted by those who try to defend these histoically abhorrent acts.
the Inquistors thought they were battling Satan- a far bigger threat to humanity than even a ticking bomb.
The Nazi's thought they were battling an insideous group who was trying to destroy the German gene pool- an attempt to extinguish the 'Aryan' race, essentially genocide in teir view.
But in neither case has their use of 'harsh interrogation methods' been vindicated. In fact they have been outright rejected, and Outlawed.
Are the Repugs saying these Groups were Justified because these acts were committed under the pretense of 'security'. are they trying to vindicate the Inquistors, The Nazi's and Pol Pot, by referring to this as merely a difference in political policy?
I'm betting the jewish community and the Brave souls of the Greatest generation may take exeption to such flippant claims.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to determine whether waterboarding is or isn't torture. A single question is all that's needed -

Do we Americans feel that waterboarding would be acceptable if used against US military personnel being held by a hostile nation or group?

If yes, then we can say with a straight face that waterboarding isn't torture.

If no, then we must accept that our adversaries will use this method and we will have no right to protest their actions.

Seems simple enough.

IF his "outrage" is sincere...

...then where was he during the Shrub administration?

An IF it is sincere, he may not be employed for long by Faux "News." Which makes me think this is some kind of diverionary tactic.

In any event, to define what is torture, just use the "Golden Rule," ---do unto others..

If the Shrub and Cheney would be willing to be waterboarded then and only then would I deem it to not be torture. In fact it would have to be fun, as these are the two biggest cowards I have ever seen.

the train (and American Justice) left the station a long time ago.
The Conductor (the US Military Complex and The Bush Cabal) bought your ticket (soul) and no matter how many times you drop the a@@ and "F" bomb on live television, refunds, exchanges or second thoughts are simply not allowed.
For those who think Shep's outrage is real (although late), just remember this could be you after four years of Obama's "looking forward" and "going along to get along" strategy.

John McCain was tortured to get a "false" confession?
Posted by: weslen1 on Apr 24, 2009 9:50 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
The Vietnamese "tortured" John McCain for a "false" confession but the U.S. only "tortures" for "true" confessions.
Or is it the other way around?
Guess it depends on who's telling the story! Hmmm?
So let's shove a few Bushies and waterboard them a little, put them in a box with scorpions in it but TELL them it mosquitoes, (grossout alert), strip Georgie and Dickie to their BD suits with a dog collar and leash and bring in a few vicious pit bulls, (Palin comes to mind) to snarl and snap at their privates, spray them with fire hoses for a while then turn the air as cold as it will go and see if they tell us the truth or a lie. Well whatever they say, do it all again and make them change their story. Give us all the names they ever knew so we can get them too.
These people, to put it in perspective and very simply, ARE INSANE. THOSE WHO TORTURED AND THOSE WHO CONDONE IT AND THOSE WHO JUSTIFY IT. They are all INSANE!
