Pat Robertson has allied himself with Osama bin Laden and other extreme radical religious leaders with his statements on executing the president of Venezuela.

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club."
"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."
"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson said. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war … and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."
His words are no different from those of fundamentalist clerics who call on Muslims to kill George Bush. The Christian Right should act swiftly to distance itself from his hate speech and discredit him as its spokesman.

Digg!

Criminal charges should be filed

I think that Pat Robertson's statement is atrocious. Not only does the religious right need to publicly and loudly condem Robertson for these statement, but he should be criminally prosecuted. Doesn't the advocacy of a terrorist act violate the PATRIOT act?

Robertson may not have have chosen the most diplomatic way to say it, but no doubt Venezuela, as well as the rest of Latin America would be better off without him.

Chavez is a democratic leader - Robertson is a terrorist thug and should be arrested

"SteelYuppie" should be aware that Chavez is the democratically elected Head of State of Venezuela, has a huge popular mandate, and has a demonstrated history of acting in the best interests of the common people of his country. If this offends the rich, the multinationals or the US administration, that's too bad: Chavez's presidency is democracy at work, so get over it!

I was under the impression that inciting assassination was unlawful in the USA, First Amendment or no. Shouldn't Pat Robertson be arrested for this?

SteelYuppie's grammar/syntax clearly need work but the comment is inadvertently valid:

"Robertson may not have have chosen the most diplomatic way to say it, but no doubt Venezuela, as well as the rest of Latin America would be better off without him."

Venezuela and the rest of the world would indeed be better off without Pat Robertson.

Judge, jury, executioner, evangelist...idiot.

Why not paste a stamp on his forehead & send ol' Pat down there to do the job hisself [sic]...?

Since that will probably never happen, (cuz the privileged ones who advocate war and violence never actually participate in it) then ofcourse Robertson should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

How far does American culture have to sink before we reign-in the hypocrits?

Any movement with a "North Korean" delegation certainly does not express any fondess to democracy.

The US is a moving torward becoming a Militaristic Christian Theocracy. Having been one myself, the leadership of the US is little different that Iran. The evangelical right thinks exactly like Pat Robertson and has no remorse in what he said regarding assasination of world leaders that don't believe as they do. The tears they shed are crocodile tears and can best be understood by going to http://www.theocracywatch.org/audio-video.htm and listen or watch what the leadership in the US has become.

I'm so distraught by news of PR's incredulous statements I was compelled to blog the following observation. Both Jeb and Dubya are looking more and more like Pat Robertson's bastard children. Click on link and see.

To paraphrase an old Woody Allen movie....If Jesus could come back and see what was being done in his name(by the TV Christian Right), he wouldn't be able to stop throwing-up.

Iraq shuddering like pressure cooker ready to explode in a blast of Islamic theocracy, Bin Laden riding around on a donkey with a dialisis machine yet nobody can find him. You'ld think Bush and his cronies would have the good scence to keep their heads down and their mouths shut. You'ld think! Evidently Pat Robertson thinks the Patriot act is just for dope- fiends and Islamics! How odd that over half the incedents of terrorism this country has suffered has been the work of right-wing Christian zealots!! Yet Pat Robertson thinks he's teflon- coated and bullet- proof!! Yea his faccist ass would look just dandy in Gitmo! Let's send him there!

When you think of Pat Robertson and his call for our government to assassinate Hugo Chavez, remember these sage words from Wilt Chamberlin: It's easier to keep quiet and be thought of as a fool rather than open your mouth and expose yourself for who you really are.

You thought he learned his lesson the hard way when he popped off during the 9/11 aftermath. Apparently he hasn't.

What do you expect from a televangelist with diaharrea of the mouth.

In any case, let's praise the Lord and pass the Pepto-Bismol.

It has become obvious to all that the Rev. Robertson has
reach total senility. The best thing to do is place the Rev.
under heavy medication and admit him to a nice home for
the "criminally insane". If this is done soon we can go
back to watching Bush.

GOP pays tribute to Pat Robertson

So this guy gets an exceptional burden relief from the growing congested traffic on I-64 while even more burden is shifted to the rest of the state. Kaine may not be perfect but at least he's not a rightwing taliban unlike Jerry Kilgore or Pat Robertson.

..Mr. Robertson was prosecuted for comitting a terrorist act according to our post 9/11 - Patriot Act new world? If you or I were to make a statement like that in front of witnesses we would be arrested and the key would be thrown away.

I guess since he is a friend of king George he is immune to the law. Or maybe because he is a soldier of god he answes to a different law then the rest of us? Oh the questions . . . .

Isn't it now clearly apparent that their is a clear and present need for an Anti-Hate law ammendment to the Constitution?

By having a law that makes the "preaching" of hatred a crime would put people like this out of business.
As most western democratic countries have laws criminalizing hatred already on their books, why is it that we can't get this simple common sensical item passed...

Is fear and hatred all thats left in this "dis-union" called the United States of America?

Anyone that's honest would admit to making comments, like Robertson did, at one time or another, and if ya deny it I will call you a liar. You're just not supposed to say these things publically, and if you do some self rightious bung-hole will get on your case. Well I think the guy is just like anyone else and hasn't said anything that you or haven't said before.
