Journalist Robert Novak plowed into a pedestrian on K Street this morning. Novak said he didn't realize he'd hit the 60-year-old man, but an eyewitness told ABC News that the victim was "splayed on the windshield" of Novak's black corvette and that there was no way that Novak could have failed to realize he'd struck the man. A bicyclist caught up with Novak about a block away from the crash and informed him that he'd just hit someone.

Watch the video. Novak was cited for failure to yield the right of way. I hope they gave him a breathalyser test. He's slurring his words pretty badly, two hours after the accident. Novak starts talking about 55 seconds into the clip, below. At about 1:22, Novak becomes almost unintelligible when the reporters ask him how his victim is doing.

He's three sheets to the wind. How many martini's does Bob have for lunch I wonder? "Didn't see" the pedestrian? How can you not see someone when they're spread-eagled across the hood - of your Corvette! What a riot!

When I first heard about this (a few minutes ago), my thought was, I bet Novak hit the pedestrian on purpose. He was probably thinking, "Hey, pedestrian! This will teach you to save gas!..." (You see, Novak probably, like a lot of uber-conservatives, is hoping for Big Oil to keep making big profits.)

As for Novak slurring, I haven't watched the video, but when has Novak ever NOT been slurring?? The man drinks as much, I bet, as President Bush (still) does!

... sounds just like my old Da. Drunk. Pissed drunk.

Goes to show the kind of people who are employed by the media (especially cable "news")...

Let's see.
Novak is a traitor for helping to identify a covert CIA agent. O'Reilly is a rapist, and that's a kind thing to say about him. The rest, well, every time I watch the "news" all I see are utter shits.

Is there no integrity in TV news? At all? Is this thing on???

How could DCPD, especially given the obviously slurred interview, not test him? Leaving the scene? Hit and run?

Poor victim, hope he's ok. He's probably got more DC ambulance chasers on him than chances of never having to work again and hearing from all of his "old friends".

It would have been sweet seeing Novak in cuffs.

Okay, let me get this straight...

if he hits a pedestrian IN AN INTERSECTION, drives away, appears to be drunk (if you were Novak, wouldn't you feel the need to be drunk all the time, too?), why is he only getting a ticket for failure to yield?

The pedestrian, that is. I'm sure someone will be interviewing him in the near future and we'll get his perspective on the whole thing.

In the meantime, it's going to be damned entertaining watching Novak explain how he didn't know he had hit someone. No doubt he will eventually attack anyone who differs in their account of the incident as liars out to exploit a tragic situation because of his "fame". I just went through an episode of having my driver's license suspended for being late with my vehicle registration. Novak will probably never even be considered for such an action, despite seriously injuring someone due to his impaired driving. And I'm not saying he was drunk (though he might have been) just impaired.

You want anymore proof this clown really is the "Prince of Darkness"? Not surprising this worm thinks that's some sort of compliment.

.......that the victim will sue Novak. Then, barring interference (hah!), lots of juicy details might come out and ruin Novak's lying career.

and they happened to dig up a statement Novak made on some TV show in 2001 in which he says that he hates pedestrians. Absolutely hates them. He yells at them all the time. And if it weren't for the fact that he's a "compassionate conservative" he would run them over!

No shit. That's what he said.

Truth is stranger than fiction.
