Brave New Films released a new short film yesterday debunking the McCain campaign's smears against ACORN. The film argues that spurious charges against the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now are part of a larger Republican strategy to depress the turnount of low income, minority, and young voters in battleground states. If the propaganda onslaught succeeds, the Republicans could steal the election. If it fails, the GOP has laid the groundwork to contest the legitimacy of an Obama victory.

Watch the clip and pass it on.  Do your part to defuse these poisonous allegations before they hurt more people.

Would they, could they have engineered the housing crisis just to take away more votes?

it seems there is no end to what they will do.

I read in our local paper, The Princeton Packet, two well written and damning letters from local citizens about ACORN, mortgages, the votes, and Obama. Curious about their information, I googled ACORN and found many references linking Obama and the "misdeeds" of ACORN. The majority are right wing views, and definitely distorting. Thankyou for this video. We all need to be very aware and have our arguments ready. The right wing is pushing their point.

I'm not sure why this is such a hard point to get across, but article after article, and now this film misses an opportunity to drive the talking points home:

ACORN pays people on a commission basis to solicit registrations.

Most people are honest, but there are always people who try to cheat to earn more money by signing up Mickey Mouse.

ACORN is forced by law to turn in the bad with the good, but they PROACTIVELY sort out the bad registrations and then RESPONSIBLY alert the registrar about them.

The GOP, the media and even our own blog authors and movie makers still push the idea that ACORN is actively trying to commit voter registration fraud. We can't stop the GOP, but we can certainly hound our own people for not telling the whole story concisely and effectively.

Regarding BraveNewVideo's video, it took over five minutes to ALMOST say the most important points I said above, but it still left the meat off the bone: ACORN's hired contractors try to cheat; ACORN is forced to submit the cheater's forms; ACORN sorts them out and alerts the registrar.

ACORN is on the front line PREVENTING registration fraud as best they can.

What's so hard about reporting that?

.

Who says the GOP isn't encouraging their members to earn pocket-money from ACORN . . .

Who says the GOP isn't encouraging their members to earn pocket-money from ACORN by recording fantasy registrations? That way they could really sink the ACORN setup - if only the Acorns would stop reporting the bad apples themselves . . . what a pest it is when the other side turns out not to be corrupt.

Another thing - this wonderful constitution we hear so much about includes the right to freedom of speech, which apparently means the right to smear any dirt you can think up, especially including proven lies, about anybody who endangers your chance to steal whatever you fancy. What the Constitution does NOT do is give you the right to vote.

The world looked on with appalled, disgusted, stunned disbelief when GWB transparently stole the election in 2000. We took it for granted you would put an end to this fraud - you were always our leading light and mentor, specifically the neutral US observers who permitted themselves the right to declare OUR elections to be "fair" and "free" - or not, as the case may be.

Freedom automatically dies when fairness is strangled.

US elections have never, from the days of the Founding Fathers, been fair - unfairness is the guiding principal and aim behind every "winner-take-all" system, including of course the electoral college system. And it works, as all observers, world-wide, are forced to and/or gleefully acknowledge, depending on whether they are also planning to rig their own next election or not.

Unfair due to "hanging chads" and defect/manipulable voting machines.

Unfair due to unquestionably biassed, partisan rulings from courts supposedly responsible for guaranteeing and dispensing impartial justice. (Votes may be recounted – but only until it becomes apparent that a full recount will confirm a GOP defeat!)

Unfair in allowing palpably false statements to be made about opponents / polling dates / polling stations / voting rights / polling conditions etc.
How long would these despicable, irresponsible lies survive if each and every false statement / robocall / advertisement / email / hate-mongering Party meeting were to carry an automatic $100 dollar fine – payable to the defamed party?

Unfair due to inadequate preparation on the part of the government which takes your taxes for this purpose (they know who you are and where you live when THEY want money from YOU) and then fails to equip you with a valid voting ID in adequate advance of the election date.

Unfair due to inadequate preparation of selected polling station capacities in areas known or presumed to have a voting population liable to disagree with the party responsible for this preparation.

Unfair in view of interstate discrepancies / inadequate information with regard to the treatment of students' residential status / polling stations.

Unfair in view of interstate discrepancies with regard to the treatment of (ex-)penitentiary inmates, some of whose votes are counted although they are currently interned, some of whom are excluded from the voting process for the rest of their lives - even if they were never charged for any offence.

Crassly unfair in refusing the right of those made homeless by the limitlessly inhuman greed of the current administration to say what they think of this administration.

If the ruling parties were REALLY interested in fair and free elections, as opposed to another guaranteed (stolen) "victory" the first thing they would do would be to attack and resolve all those discrepancies I have listed. There are surely more; I don't for one moment suppose that I know everything.

What a glorious opportunity for the winner on November 4th to get this act sorted out before the first Tuesday in November, 2012 – or, even better, before 2010,
