More 9/11 lies

As you might already know, on the rapidly approaching five-year anniversary of September 11, 2001, ABC (which is, of course, owned by Disney) is slated to air a 6-hour docu-drama called "Path to 9/11."

According to Act for Change:

The film was written by an unabashed conservative who twists the facts to blame President Clinton...

ABC's new six-hour film was apparently screened in advance only to conservative bloggers and journalists -- and received extensive praise from none other than Rush Limbaugh. ABC is advertising the film as being "based on the 9/11 Commission report" -- yet also admits that it's a "docu-drama," in which writers and producers are free to invent and distort facts.

Former counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke has already unequivacolly refuted one of the key scenes of the movie. In a note to Think Progress, Clark detailed the film's discrepancies:

  • Contrary to the movie, no US military or CIA personnel were on the ground in Afghanistan and saw bin Laden.
  • Contrary to the movie, the head of the Northern Alliance, Masood, was no where near the alleged bin Laden camp and did not see UBL.
  • Contrary to the movie, the CIA Director actually said that he could not recommend a strike on the camp because the information was single sourced and we would have no way to know if bin Laden was in the target area by the time a cruise missile hit it.

You can write to ABC here, and demand they pull the film from their lineup next week. And be sure to check out this great website, Open Letter to ABC: Don't Airbush 9/11, for comprehensive info and updates about the film. From who's been writing to ABC in protest (Congressman John Conyers, Jr., Reps. John Dingell, Jane Harman, Louise Slaughter) to journalists (the Boston Globe's Suzanne Ryan, Detroit News' Mekeisha Madden Toby) who've been "duped" by the movie, there's lots here.

The truth about what happened that horrible day in September has been obscured enough as it is; if there's one thing the American public doesn't need, it's more media-spun BS about our national security and presidential accountability.

Digg!

This was predictable. Too bad this society is so obsessed with anniversaries, or the media wouldn't get to hype/twist it up this way. (Yes, the networks as well as the public, I know. Vicious circle of stupidity.) 4 years, 5 years, who gives a shit? We're still being screwed, duped, lied to, led to catastrophes beyond thinking. Neocon conspiratorial catastrophe as another commodity. Keep shopping. Don't think.

I'm with a local group in NM that has met with Senators/Rep or their reps, but for 9/11 I'll be out at a big intersection with a sign of some sorts saying effectively "Don't be Had Again" with a couple prominent 9/11 sites listed, maybe st911.org etc. Or maybe ABC written vertically, with "Authority's Best Conspiracy"? I'll have some flyers too with basic info.

If you're in a bigger area with freeway overpasses and the like, I encourage "FREEWAY BLOGGING" to wake up some weary Good Americans' eyes.

Right about now we have a hysterical administration coming unglued. They should be allowed to do anything that makes them look even more foolish. This isn't as much fun to watch as I thought it would be. They have to be allowed to self destruct. It's so sad. We all deserve better. Especially 140,000 of our best over in Iraq. If all they have is Bill CLinton, well, that's not much. Thanks, ANNA

... to try and counter-balance films like 9/11: Press for Truth.

Otherwise they just have Talk Radio to espouse their nonsense. So, in a way, maybe this signals that we have them on the run.

One thing's for sure... They don't like it when we reject their official story and continue to ask for answers.

I've been reading and hearing about this stupid show for almost a week. Eveyone says to contact ABC or Disney. But who are the sponsor for this show? I'd really like to know.

From Digby is this article about
right-wing Christian boycotting of
Disney, and how it effected Disney:

http://www.unknownnews.org
/0601240121WelcomeTotheNeighborhood.html

What this post shows is how Christians
are willing to boycott Disney, and thus
have the power to effect Disney's policies.

What the ABC/Disney 911 mini-series shows
is how progressives are *not* willing to boycott
a tv channel (too painful to give up any tv shows).

I think this explains why right-wing Christians
are such a political force while progressives
are not. Right-wing Christians are willing
to walk-the-talk while progressives aren't
(at least as far as tv is concerned).

Email addresses for key senior Disney and ABC execs

OK, here the names, titles and email addresses for a number of key senior Disney decision makers I found, starting at the top
with the CEO and board of directors are at the bottom.

Let's make our voices heard and see if we can get these guy to pull this blatantly obvious Bush propaganda. ABC may profit from the predictable controversy but airing a film designed to obfuscate Bush's responsibility for 9/11 will cause ABC to suffer greatly in the estimation of serious people.

Disney and ABC should leave the RNC propaganda to Fox, it's not ABC's demographic.

Freedom of speech

OK, so this upcoming movie is biased. So was "Fahrenheit 9/11". So what?

It's freedom of speech. If ABC wants to take a chance and air a program that could potentially lose them some of their viewers, then so be it.

Now, everyone here is talking about an ABC boycott.

Funny, when people started to boycott the Dixie Chicks, all the left-wingers whined about it.

Why not contact Scholastic and protest their production of teaching guides for this distorted series, so that it can be used as instructional fodder in the classroom. Bad enough that the parents get misinformed. Let's don't repeat the mistake in the classroom. They have a website: scholastic.com

Did you think that corporate media would present an unbiased view of any political or social issues? You're not going to get ABC to pull the show from their line-up because it will cost them too much, having already sold advertising around the programming.

It seems to me that Barcella has a tendency to get heated up about the entertainment industry when it doesn't walk a political line with which she agrees. If this program evidenced a liberal bias, it would still be a work of fiction, and just as deceptive as this programming. If such a view was shown on the public air, you'd see the same outcry from the right.

Advocating censorship of an idea, simply because you don't agree with it, is very scary. And when those of us on the left begin to decry and censor ideas...even opposing ones...we've lost sight of what it means to be liberal.

Duh, who'd be dumb enough to watch this propoganda ?

I'll be watching the Brit show where the chimp gets whacked.

Definately more interesting.

Because while it is certainly fair to point out the biases in this film-- heck, I'd love to see ABC put the writer's name in big block letters-- I cannot support urging ABC to block the show, or not air it, or anything of that kind. For the same reasons I would not like it if right-wing people called the FCC down on Michael Moore for asking PBS to broadcast his documentary.

Nobody gets a pass on free speech.

Even if it is lies. Even if it is untrue. You can point out that it is untrue, but part of the problem is that truth (or Truth) becomes an awfully slippery concept, you know?

Right wing people spout all kinds of drivel. I would never, ever, say that they should be prevented from that. It is not fair that leftists don'[t have the same kind of fora, but I don't recall a clause anyplace anywhere that says life has to be remotely, faintly fair. It isn't. Bad guys win sometimes. You deal with it and try to mitigate it and win the next time, or give up.

But you don't adopt the very same tactics they would. You never, ever become just like them.

The hysteria is laughable. This movie will finally do what the dinosaur media fails to do, be objectionable. I know that liberals are use to having the media constantly bash the Bush administration, which is why you are not able to handle it when Clinton is exposed for his anti military administration.
Are we suppose to believe Sandy Burglar, a man caught stealing top secret documents from the national archives... I don't think so.

It's refreshing to see liberals get a dose or reality once in a while. Between all the spoon fed "news" they listen to on liberal media outlets (CNN, MSNBC, etc...) telling them what they want to hear instead of the truth.

The fact is, Bush may have froze for 7 minutes after hearing about the twin towers, but Clinton froze for 8 years on terrorism. 9/11 was a direct result of the Clinton administrations policy of trying to make everyone happy and run from conflict. Even giving money/oil/food to enemies (North Korea) so they wouldn't stir the pot an possibly have a negative affect the economy or his image. Clinton made it illegal for the CIA and FBI to share information, so the NAACP would be happy.

More light should be shed on the failures of the Clinton administration. If we don’t learn from past mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them.
