Diane Wilson: bring the troops home, fast

Author, activist and Texas shrimper Diane Wilson has reached the 24th day of her hunger fast to protest the war in Iraq. And she's doing it only 150 yards away from the White House, in alliance with Code Pink's Troops Home Fast.

According to the Associated Press:

Wilson, an environmental activist and co-founder of Code Pink, is one of more than 4,000 people in the United States and 22 other countries participating in the Troops Home Fast that began July 4.... Code Pink has pledged to keep the fast going until International Peace Day on Sept. 21.
But while others are participating in one-day hunger strikes or consuming juices, Wilson claims to be sticking to a water-only diet. She has shed 20 pounds from her 170-pound frame, and loose, leathery skin has replaced muscle.
"I'm all or nothing. I'm not a lukewarm person," Wilson said, explaining her refusal to modify her hunger strike. "I'm either right there with something, or I'm not there."

Digg!

My heart and good thoughts are with you and all the fasters and CODEPINK folks...if my health permitted it, I'd be fasting right along with you.
My hat's off to all you brave, peace-loving people.

I remember back in the time of Vietnam there were people like the ones in CodePink who took a stand for peace. These are the real heroic figures of the new millenium. We should be blessed with leaders in America (and Canada) with this sort of mettle.

I regretably believe that GWB does not care whether this lady or Mrs. Shehan die from hunger in protesting his war. Can we assume funeral arrangements have been made by the parties involved?

Why reach for the silly when facts will do a much more precise and useful job. I vote for egomania as the prevailing diagnosis. Here are three respected definitions of egomania. Seems to me they fit perfectly.

* concerned with self-gratification rather than the common good; focusing on greed instead of fellow-feeling

* obsessed with an exaggerated sense of self-importance; full of conceit instead of regard for others

* controlled by any one who flatters us or appears to consider our needs; followers of whatever cult leader appears to recognize our importance
