Last year, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) joked about bombing Iran to the theme of the Beach Boy’s “Barbara Ann.” McCain was widely criticized for the remark, but simply told critics to “lighten up and get a life.” The Washington Post notes that McCain tried joking about “killing” Iranians again today:

Responding to a question about a survey that shows increased exports to Iran, mainly from cigarettes, McCain said, “Maybe thats a way of killing them.” He quickly caught himself, saying “I meant that as a joke” as his wife, Cindy, poked him in the back.

According to a report released today, U.S. exports to Iran “grew more than tenfold during President Bush’s years in office even as he accused Iran of nuclear ambitions and helping terrorists. America sent more cigarettes to Iran, at least $158 million worth under Bush, than any other products.”

Cancer sticks kill you miserably, slowly, and with much suffering to the smoker and his or her family.

Like it or not, McCain was factually correct, in that cigarettes will even kill middle-easterners, much to the author's chagrin. They are an equal-opportunity killer, and they are one of the few bastions of non-discrimination (indiscriminant killers to be exact) in an otherwise politically correct world.

You smoke, then you die. If not of lung cancer, then likely of emphysema or bronchitis.

I submit that his fault was not in saying that cancer sticks will kill Iranians; his fault was implying that such a statement was only in jest. It's deadly serious, and deadly accurate.

Now, I don't condone government witch-hunts against cancer-stick users or cancer-stick manufacturers. I just like having the information out there, that these things kill you, as seemingly some people haven't gotten that message. Witness the tobacco lawsuits of the late 1990's.

get four more years of stupid, un-presidential, remarks. Like George W., McCain was born with his foot in his mouth.

McCain is a pig who just wants to fight a war. He didn't get to finish the one he was in so he thinks this is a way to redeem himself for losing the plane and all. Let's start another war, that will make America prosperous. Just look at what the current two have done for us. The man belongs in a strait jacket.

This is far more than what it seems at face value: a stupid, insecure dolt saying provocative things in a sad attempt to enhance his popularity. Anyone who can talk this way about killing and maiming soldiers, resisters and innocent civilians, including children, is very ill, and should be allowed no more than closely monitored accomodation in a secure mental facility - along with the rest of the despicable breed of sub-humans in contol of your government.

It says something about a society when a highly-visible public figure does something like this and, except for maybe a day on msm, only some of the alternate media pick up on how serious it is, and even they minimize it somewhat.

Have you Americans become so jaded that you just don't get it anymore? This loathsome creature is joking...JOKING!...about more killing and maiming, on top of the horror you've allowed and caused in Iraq by electing your current children-in-charge. Anyone who votes for or even considers supporting such a person as this mccain needs to take a hard look at their own moral standards.

McCain is hoping for a way to kill Iranians, not talking about the dangers of cigarette smoking!

You know that war with Iran... that one that hasn't even started yet and never should... McCain can't wait to start it.

A vote for McCain is a vote for war in Iran.
If you vote for McCain you better go see your local recruiter as soon as you get out of the voting booth.

It should be clear that "they" hate us because our leadership is hateful. I was amazed at the reaction MSM had to this comment. They didn't think it was that bad cuz it was a joke. I wonder if the joke were about them would they feel the same? My guess is NO!

After reading these comments and the tone they set, I have to ask myself: Why bother.
