On June 16, the House Oversight Committee issued a subpoena to Attorney General Michael Mukasey for documents related to the CIA leak scandal. In a letter today, Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) notes that Mukasey has not yet “complied with this subpoena” and threatened to hold him in contempt unless he produces a key FBI interview with Vice President Cheney:

I regret that your failure to produce responsive documents has created this impasse, but Congress has a constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the executive branch. Therefore, unless all responsive documents, with the exception of the FBI interview report of President Bush, are provided to the Committee or a valid assertion of executive privilege is made, the Committee will meet on July 16 to consider a resolution citing you in contempt. I strongly urge you to reconsider your position and comply with the duly issued subpoena.

These assholes don't care about "contempt of Congress" and have literally laughed at the thought of anything really happening to them for any of the crimes they have committed.

I applaud Waxman for at least making an effort... more than most will do on Capitol Hill.

Contempt of Congress pales by comparison the the crimes these thugs have committed. When are they REALLY going to have to answer for all they have wrought?

Arrest the Traitors and be done with it.
This asking to appear has done nothing. If the Dems in both Houses want THEIR jobs next year they had better get off their asses and stop playing these games. In fact a number of Dems should also be arreseted with this Admin and their staff- Pelosi,Reid,Hoyer, Feinstien, Levin,Clinton...- Dereliction of Duty and Complicity. We would not be in the situation we are had they not continually Paved the way for this admins Atrocities and Crimes!
We have accomplices who are camoflagued in Blue who should also stand Trial, they have not only granted this admin all, but also the INC's who have sold this country out for decades.

So let me get THIS .The Committee will issue a contempt citation THAT Mukassey will REFUSE to enforce just like he has refused to enforce the ones against Rove .
I do believe that Mukassey could be IMPEACHED .

The concept of anyone in Congress actually following through on a threat--has been sadly emasculated by the macho White House.

for discussion. The voters are to blame for putting in so many republicans. Until you put in 60 democrats it is going to be like this.

...for Rep. Waxman to consider, in the matter of (his) Judiciary Committee's mishandling of the Rove and Mukasey affair:

#1) You are a Lawmaker.
#2) We The People, are paying your salary.
#3) No matter what you may have heard about rigged election machines and other assaults on our voting machinery--not one of you people on the Hill, is safe from being voted out of office this year.

#4) So quit writing in AlterNet, making excuses (with Linda Sanchez, yet!) about how terrible Mukasey and Rove are, for ignoring your summons to appear in front of them. NOW IS THE TIME TO ENFORCE YOUR SUMMONSES TO THESE LAWBREAKING THUGS--or forever lose the respect of your fellow Americans.

#5) In fact, if you DON'T act immediately to compel these lawbreakers' appearances in front of your Judicial Committee, Rep. Waxman--in other words, if you DON'T ask Interpol to help you to apprehend Karl Rove--and if you DON'T request the Capitol AND the DC police, to drag Mukasey in front of your committee--you risk not only being kicked out of office this year, yourself,--but also having to appear in front of a Committee of newly-elected Congressional Representatives next year--to explain to them how you ended up by your inaction, being such an 'accessory after the fact' to these White House thugs' many war crimes and lawbreaking, that you end up, as guilty as they are.

After all--anybody ELSE breaking the law, (other than Rove & Mukasey, it seems) wouldn't be able to get away with it by claiming that "you can't touch me because I say so".

The people of this country are that angry, Rep. Waxman. We mostly now blame YOU (all) on the Hill, for this situation. So here are your choices: you can either be 1) American lawmakers--or 2) prostitutes for Corporations. How do YOU wish to be remembered?

Your continued inaction in performing your Congressional duties from now until this November, will make you either heroes or morons to be forever ridiculed by generations of Americans.

These choices are yours--as they have always been. What has NOT always been apparent to you on the Hill, however--is how much and how deeply we are holding OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES responsible--not only for Bush/Cheney's NON-impeachment--but also for the continued flaunting of Karl Rove and Attorney General Mukesey, as they continue to give you the finger, in response to your summonses--and you do nothing about it, but complain about 'how terrible these people are.'

We KNOW how terrible they are. We knew it way before any of you Hill denizens did. We also know that you have plenty of legal machinery available for redress of these wrongs, which you so far, haven't lifted finger one, to utilize. Rep. Waxman, we know that, too. But what we DON't know, is--

Exactly WHAT THE HELL are you waiting for, Rep. Waxman?
