I suppose most presidents are humble and self-effacing.

Conservative WaPo columnist Charles Krauthammer  -- my fave! -- today:

When President Obama returned from his first European trip, I observed that while over there he had been "acting the philosopher-king who hovers above the fray mediating" between America and the world. Now that Obama has returned from his "Muslim world" pilgrimage, even the left agrees. "Obama's standing above the country, above -- above the world. He's sort of God," Newsweek's Evan Thomas said to a concurring Chris Matthews, reflecting on Obama's lofty perception of himself as the great transcender.

Conservative WaPo columnist Michael Gerson  -- he coined the term "Axis of Evil"! -- Wednesday:

It is President Obama's defining rhetorical strategy. For every contending thesis and antithesis -- Islam vs. the West, Iran vs. America, Palestinians vs. Israel -- he is the synthesis. All sides possess a shiny shard of the truth. Obama assembles the mosaic.

Discounting for gush and swoon, the reaction of Newsweek's Evan Thomas to the Cairo speech was revealing: "I mean, in a way, Obama's standing above the country, above -- above the world, he's sort of God." Here is an American president so Olympian in his perspective that he is "above the country." Obama seldom chooses to be a participant in ideological struggles. He aspires to be history's referee.

I guess this is the best they've got, which is really kind of sad.

Digg!

I'd bet my dogs think I'm 'All powerful' and 'All Knowing' too- but you have to consider the intellectual level of the source, first.
Pres Obama speech in Cairo was not that amazing to many Americans- because it was the reality we already knew to be fact. Anyone with a descent education, able to read or even the curiosity to search the internet knows the True History of the World and our Country. At least enough to know that the Wests Shit stinks too.
The only amazing thing is that he was willing to finally say it!Of course, justifiably he also tempered his admissions with 'but don't pat yourselves on the back too quickly'.
So as with my dogs, even though they may think me a 'God' or spitefully tell their doggy friends I think I am a 'god'- that in no way reflects the true nature of my existence or my perspection of myself. It's purely my dogs limited ability to intellectualize the big picture (or read my mind).
So lil' Rightwing pocket puppies- if you sit, stay and rollover, I will magically produce a milkbone from my pocket!
My apologize to all canines for the disparaging comparison-Your aptitude for Logic far exceeds the Right Wings.

"..Evan Thomas quoted: "I mean, in a way, Obama's standing above the country, above -- above the world, he's sort of God."

So, that is a reporter making his own personal comment...

"..Here is an American president so Olympian in his perspective that he is "above the country."

and there we have Snouthammer deliberately claiming that it was The President that originated the comment

But of course, he's writing for the Fox watching, mouth breathers out there...

I'll bet that Obama put his pants on one leg at
a time. He's just one honest man doing what is
probably the toughest job in the world.

BECAUSE OBAMA IS SO DIFFERENT FROM GW BUSH HE JUST SEEMS LIKE THE MESSIAH. THE BIG TEXAS COWBOY APPROACH DIDN'T WORK OUT SO WELL AFTER ALL. BUSH CLAIMED THAT HE WAS BEING GUIDED BY GOD (ACTUALLY IT WAS DICK CHENY,KARL ROVE, AND JOHN ASHCROFT INSTEAD OF THE OTHER HOLY TRIMITY!) BUT IT DIDN'T WORK OUT SO WELL.

IF THERE ACTUALLY WAS A GOD IT WOULD HAVE SMOTE BUSH A LONG TIME AGO AND IT MIGHT JUST CROWN OBAMA THE NEW MESSIAH.
