Mary Ellen Lease would be ashamed.

"Perfect populist pitch." That's how CBS political pundit Jeff Greenfield described Sarah Palin's VP acceptance speech.

Excuse me, but real populists don't support profiteering schemes of Big Oil or embrace the extension and expansion of tax giveaways to Wall Street speculators and corporate chieftans. Palin might claim to be a pit bull in lipstick, but she's damn sure no populist. As Greenfield must surely know in his less infatuated moments, she is to populism what near beer is to beer -- only not as close. Indeed, she's the candidate of the plutocrats. Mary Ellen Lease -- a real hell-raising populist from the 1880s and 90s -- would be appalled at the media's perversion of this historic and proud term.

Digg!

near beer, does it still exist?

Near beer had a slightly pissy taste to it. Birell was much better. Then I disscovered O-doul's. But, after i drank a quick 6 pack, my hemmorhoides bloated up like balloons. We've never been the same since.
The roar of hoopla over Palin at the Time and Newsweek websites is deafening at this moment.
But, the obscure fact that Ms Palin was an active member of the Alaska Independence Party seems likely to become a major issue.
The Republican Leadership has chosen a secessionist to be McCain’s successor after he dies in office. That action calls their allegiance to the United States of America into question.
This seems like an issue that could be driven deep into the heart of the Republican election machinery.

How would you like to have a mother who describes herself that way?

And then get pregnant out of wedlock? At 17?

Gotta feel sorry for the girl.

A challenge to the writer of this drivel.

What is the profiteering of Big Oil? Are 7% profits not good? Obviously you have never run a business.

What is the expansion of tax breaks to speculators? there is no such thing. Obviously you are tax law challenged.

A populist is someone who emotes charmingly to tell people what they want to hear, regardless of the facts. So Sarah is not a populist? Bad thinking.

A Pitbull with Lipstick or a Chipmonk on Acid?

I tried to listen to her speech, but after 5 minutes I had to turn it off. Her oratory style was grating and the closest way I could describe it was like what a chipmonk on acid would probably sound like.

becomes questionable when that mother runs with the pack that writes laws about parental consent when a girl asks for abortion services. Do you think Sarah Palin hears herself speak or does the jaw action close off part of her cognitive abilities?

We could really improve our image worldwide if we had a beautiful "First Lady" in the White House. She wouldn't have to know anything more than the others that were in that position or the Prez for that matter, they are all coached and told what to say anyway. Maybe her old man drinks Blatz and smokes pot then they would really fit into America's imagery.

I too, found her shrill before she had finished her first sentence.

Strangely, not even my liberal friends - all of whom resent the entire episode - seemed to agree. I decided maybe it was just the way my hearing aid was adjusted! =0)

Finally I realized I just needed to describe my own reaction better - to help my friends with the right mental picture.

Soon enough I heard the perfect description on the radio.

'She can be heard over a thousand snow mobiles!'

female pit bull is a bitch, no?

and she sure is. Sorry pit bulls, I know most of you are perfectly lovely dogs.
I've hated her ever since she consistently ignored the will of Alaska's voters and went all out for chasing wolves with aircraft and then shooting the exhausted animals.
So, god must hate wolves, according to her, huh?
She makes me sick, sick, sick in her fur collars, reclining on bear rugs, posing with a murdered moose.
What a sorry excuse for a human being.

Sarah’s comparing herself to a pit bull wasn’t cutE. Pitbulls are vicious...banned in many cities...and are notorious for attacking innocent children. Is this the real Sarah Palin?
You bet, but she aint cute!!! Check out pitbullattack.wordpress.com
