The Palin Doctrine: You Pay for Your Rape Kit, I'll Pay for My Tanning Bed

Sarah Palin was ambushed by Charlie Gibson with a gotcha question about the Bush Doctrine. Well, maybe Palin isn't an expert on the current president's doctrine, but, as her hero Virginia Woolf would have it, the governator has a doctrine of one's own, the Palin Doctrine, which strikes a balance between governmental largess and governmental neglect.

Under said doctrine, for example, the government will pay for basic necessities such as installing a tanning bed in the Governor's mansion. We all know a depressed Governor makes a depressed state, and nothing gets rid of Seasonal Anxiety Disorder better than a fake tan. So Palin was acting with the economic and emotional well-being of Alaska in mind, when she had a tanning bed installed in her house.

As the women of Wasilla know, however, the Palin doctrine doesn't rejects government hand-outs such as rape kits. During Palin's mayoralty, women were stuck with the tab for their forensic exams, which range from $300 to $1,200. Palin refuses to perpetuate the endless cycle of rape-victim welfare.

By paying for rape kits, the government would be rewarding people who break their abstinence-only pledges, which, as we all know, are sacred to the entire Palin family, especially Bristol. But by charging rape victims, the government encourages women to keep their purity pledges to their fathers. Plus the expense, makes women think twice about crying wolf, thus helping to reduce Alaska's per capita rape rate, which stands among the highest in our great nation.

In both senses of the word. Let us hope that the closest she gets to the White House is on a paid tour.

What do poor women do that can't afford a rape kit? Just lie back and enjoy it. Where does this woman come from? This is a typical republican, it's all about me and to hell with you. She is one reason that I will never vote republican.

Palin Is The Perfect Bush/Cheney GOP Politician

Some people just don't get it. Palin is the perfect Bush/Cheney Republican politician.

Palin is the governor and she believes that she is entitled to whatever it is she wants. Executive power means more than laws. She's the CEO of Alaska and entitled to the luxury of power and royalty.

Everyone else who doesn't have this power is just out of luck. They need to work harder and 'get their own'. If they can't hack it, well that's too bad. That's what pure capitalism is all about. After all the little people only matter when you need to con them into voting for you.

I read--or heard on the radio--that Palin won't have the Alaska government pay for rape forensics kits because they have 3 emergency contraception kits in them. Sorry I cannot recall the source.

I'm not sure whether the author's assessment--that this policy is to prevent women from 'crying wolf'--is sarcastic hyberbole or not. (Geez I sure hope it is!) But what this DOES show is how Palin would govern regarding birth control.

Looks to me like any health care facility that received title 10 (family planning) funds would not be allowed to cover contraception. --because these fundamentalist Christians believe that "life begins at conception." And the iud, the pill, other hormonal birth control methods, may sometimes prevent IMPLANTATION of a fertilized egg into the uterine lining. Implantation is the medical definition of pregnancy.

In other words, this is not the first indication that, under a Palin/McCain presidency, birth control would be under siege.

BUT--we are not going to have to worry about that, because her star is burning itself out. Despite a lot of really really dumb Americans being out there, we actually seem to have MORE smart ones, who are demanding substance over style. She is so ill-informed on the issues that, as the author said about the forensics kits, it would be funny if it weren't so sad.

And thus I suggest that we all clear Palin from our consciousness now. Like Ann Coulter (and oh how much like Coulter she is!), the more attention we give her, the more important she becomes. Ignore her and she ceases to have the limelight.

It's "seasonal affective disorder," and I should know; I lived in Alaska for six years. But really, I admire Sarah Palin for performing one great service for the people of Alaska - she ousted Frank Murkowski, the first time anyone had been able to do that in a couple of decades!

"CHRISTIAN VALUES" - An Oxymoron

The Mc Cain Ticket has gone bonkers. He's full of old ideas, old memories, and old habits; no one would run with him, so they dig out someone with no values, an extreme need to conquer and control who loves to play "Miz Housewife" but of course, hasn't a clue what that is about (any woman/mother who would parade her children before the entire world for the first time, has a screw loose or is off her meds).

Somewhere Palin's "psyche" will bleed out to the world, and what we see, and hear from her will be confirmed. McCain's even worn out from her.

At the same time, she's a sad case, and needs help.

I am a Hillary supporter, a 70's leader in the women's movement, a social liberal, a centrist Democrat - AND I AM ASHAMED!

Ashamed that I ever associated with the likes of the far-left. Ashamed I was ever a part of the group of disingenuous idiots who are now representing the liberal wing of the Democratic Party.

PALIN PAID FOR THE TANNING BED OUT OF HER OWN POCKET! THE CHIEF OF POLICE IN WASILLA INSTITUTED THE PRACTICE OF CHARGING FOR RAPE KITS BEFORE PALIN BECAME MAYOR - AND SHE HAS BEEN ADAMANT THAT SHE DID NOT KNOW OF THE PRACTICE AND THAT SHE WOULD NEVER APPROVE OF SUCH A PRACTICE KNOWINGLY.

At least google these things on occasion - if that's the most you can bring yourselves to do in the name of fairness. God forbid that you should actually research past the media lovefest with Obama.

This post is INCORRECT. Palin paid for the installation of the tanning bed HERSELF. It is still a ridiculous thing to do, but that doesn't justify being incorrect with the facts.

C'mon Alternet - you are NOT an objective news source and you should lose your tax-protected status as you clearly are pushing your own agenda. SORRY, even as a progressive feminist I refuse to be manipulated by patent untruths - you are manipulating your readers in the same way the Republicans manipulate their supporters. YUCK.

It's bad enough that this post is such a flagrant lie on two counts, but what's equally disturbing is that it took almost four hours for someone to object. And that nine posters drank the kool-aid.

I've seen one thing worse. In-the-tank-for-Obama Larry King showed the fake photo of Palin's head photo-shopped onto a stars and stripes bikini clad model holding an AK-47 last week to a panel of three people...demurely asking if it were real.

OF COURSE HE KNEW IT WAS FAKE. IT HAD BEEN DEBUNKED ON THE INTERNET FOR TWO WEEKS. But a picture says a thousand words and how could he let an opportunity go by to put that in people's heads - fake or not.

So he went to his Obama guest first who, of course, pretended to not know whether the photo was real or not.

Then he went to his in-the-tank-for-Obama FACTCHECK.org guest who also let the question lie unanswered.

After a full two minutes - a long time in air space speak - King was told over his headset that he had to admit that the photo was fake - which he finally did - in an afterthought kind of way.

DESPICABLE! KING - AND ALTERNET FOR LETTING THIS TRIPE-FILLED POST PASS FOR LEGITIMATE CONTENT!

I can't believe the trivia people talk about in connection with our current political campaign! Sara Palin is a novice, a desperate attempt by McCain to grab the Hillary vote. Her whole state of Alaska has less than one million people - the Governor of Texas just recently evacuated almost two million in the last hurricane disaster to hit Texas. Sara grew up in Wasilla and played basketball, was a soccer mom and PTA chairman, then became mayor of that little town of just over 5,000 population at the time she was mayor! Her performance on the basketball team was in a high school that barely had enough females talented enough to play basketball at all, so it was not such a great thing to be the top player! The teams they played were also from small schools. Her PTA moms were very few and would be lost in our school of 1200 elementary students alone (and there are five elementary schools in our district) and when I think of her acting as if she's ready to help high offices I think of how small her population is to the average here in the states and wonder how all of you don't think of that too? What in this world qualifies her to be Vice President? She's a novice even though she might be a big deal in her little state of less than one million people! Can't you people think? The population of her whole state could easily fit in Cincinnati (the next biggest town to my residence) five times!!! Gads! When she goes hunting moose she rides in a low flying plane and shoots the moose from the plane - the coward's way of doing it - she's not on the ground hunting the animal! Read about her! She fires those who disagree with her! She and her husband believe the woman must be submissive to the man (read about her church) and her husband gets a copy of all her emails in the governor's office? Why don't they talk about this?? He graduated HIGH SCHOOL, but did not attend college! Do you want him getting the Vice-President's emails? Why is he just behind her at all times? How can she abandon her baby to the care of 'others' all the time when we know a Down Syndrome baby requires lots and lots of care? Didn't you cringe when that baby had to stay through that loud music THREE NIGHTS at the Republican convention? That was most definitely a NO-NO for that child! Talk about values - Hillary would not have done that to a small child!! Ask you doctor about this if you don't believe this post! Sara might be President some day - think about what you're saying and doing - you are scaring me to death!!!

Your post is so full of misogynistic babble that it deserves to dismissed out of hand. But there are a couple of shots you take that I just can't let go by.

You completely miss the point that Palin's small town experience is exactly what people like about her.

You have obviously never run a business or anything like it. If you had, you would realize that sometimes it takes more business acumen to run a small business than it takes to run a large one. Alaska is a state like all the others and there exists a basic state business structure like all other states. The basic functioning is the same large or small. Further, Alaska has its own special challenges as a state requiring a certain level of expertise that would stump many governors in the lower 48.

Exactly how large are the states Barack Obama and Joe Biden have been governor of? Oh, I see. They can only claim to have managed the states of their minds.

And Palin's husband is "just behind her at all times" because that's what supportive spouses of the candidates do. Where exactly would you rather he be?

.... in this article, they should be checked and corrected by AlterNet staff, not disputed by posters who "Googled it".

Both in the spirit of accuracy and fairness, and because there are so many indisputable facts about Palin that render her unqualified for the office, as well as a despicable, lying, self-righteous hypocrite. Why waste time on lies or misrepresentations, when a cornucopia of damning facts are strewn all around us?
