Rethink Afghanistan Director Robert Greenwald is currently in Kabul.  Here is his account of the intense security:

It’s hard to put into words many things about Kabul, where I’ve been interviewing members of the Afghan parliament, women’s advocacy groups, and former Taliban members who want to negotiate peace.

One of the most sobering things I’ve seen is how security takes over your daily life, and this footage of the front of the hotel tells it all. Guards with machine guns patrol everywhere–the face of a conflict brought home.

Keep spreading the word about our petition for congressional oversight hearings that nearly 40,000 people have signed, since these hearings will inform the public and rein in this war. And continue to follow my video blog updates and Twitter feed throughout my journey, as I bring you more experiences from Afghanistan.

Digg!

Robert Greenwald is a producer, director and political activist. His new media company, Brave New Films, is currently focused on making short videos like the FOX Attacks (FoxAttacks.com) and The REAL McCain (TheRealMcCain.com), which educate and empower viewers to take action and have been seen by millions.

Robert, the Afghanistani people will continue to suffer at the hands of the American empire as long as Americans believe that it was because of Afghanistan that the attack on 9/11 took place.
I know that you realize that the official story of 9/11 is a fabrication. 9/11 was an inside job. It is so glaringly obvious once you see the truth of that day. We need to spread that truth, and you can help do it.
Alternet doesn't seem to feel the need to expose that truth, though. Maybe you can convince them. I can't.
Good, decent Americans have been conned, as ALL of the media in the US have joined the conspiracy to keep the truth about 9/11 from the American people. And so they really think that the horror of that day can be blamed on elements in Afghanistan, and as long as they believe it, they will support bombings and raids against innocent people in Afghanistan.
There is no other way to stop the insanity but to bring the truth to them: that 9/11 was a part of a scheme by people in positions of great power in the US, so that they would have their New Pearl Harbor.........with this they could ensure that Americans would accept their plan for remaking the Middle East, in their image.............a take over by a military controlled by the corporatocracy for the benefit of the very, very rich and powerful.

Please spread the real truth about 9/11 and free the Afghan people from the lies about their involvement in the attacks.

You do the American people a great service by telling the truth about Afghanistan--and Pakistan, also. You have great spokespeople adding their wisdom and insights.

I notice a reference to Ann Jones' "Kabul in Winter" by a poster on your blog. Her book is a must for anyone trying to understand conditions for women seeking an education in war-ravaged Afghanistan.

May I also suggest Sarah Chayes' remarkable "The Punishment of Virtue" and Greg Mortenson"s "Three cups of Tea."

I am currently reading "Into the Land of Bones" by Frank Holt which ought to discourage any country so bold as to think the attempt to conquer, rule, or occupy Afghanistan by even the best disciplined or equipped military forces has ever been a piece of cake.
