Members of Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church, who think 9/11 was punishment for America's tolerance of homosexuality and express their views on that issue by protesting the funerals of dead soldiers, were seen demonstrating outside of the school attended by the Obama girls. TPM reports:

Protesters were carrying signs with anti-gay, anti-abortion and anti-Obama slogans, slowing down traffic all along Wisconsin Avenue this morning.

[...]

"Quakers?! Are you frigging kidding me? You pretend to be all non-violent, and you allow the most bloody, deceitful, evil, murderous bastard and his shemale sidekick to place their satanic spawn within your four walls?" reads the posting for today's protest at Sidwell Friends, which is a Quaker school.

The appearance is part of a busy schedule that also includes demonstrating at the funerals of the 12 soldiers and civilian killed at Ft. Hood last week.

Digg!

What I want to know is when Fred Phelps is going to announce that he is running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.
He clearly is the only one who is nutty enough to win the nomination.
(except all the other who might run)

When they stop making the news, they will go away or do something very illegal and get arrested, convicted, sentenced.

Either way, they go away.

Please ignore.

...just for the sake of argument, that these homophobic morons are actually right when the speak for their loving God.

Let's just say that, yes, God hates gays, that Obama's a Muslim terrorist, that natural disasters are God's wrath for extramarital sex, that ...oh well, take your pick.

Since when it is appropriate, loving, moral, righteous or whatever noble adjective of your choosing to "protest" the children of an adversary? And to do so while they are in school ffs?!?!??

So, are they protesting the very existence of Sasha and Malia?

Oh, wait. They probably are, aren't they?

What do you say about this level of insanity, bigotry, sexphobia, hypocrisy and arrogance?

IT DOESN'T MATTER TO THE CHILDREN

All the children in this school are from the D.C. area. They see protests and demonstrations every day. I think it's a non-event for them. But it is important to keep this creep and his followers far away from the Ft. Hood funeral services. They should be arrested. If they can prove that their rights have been violated let them take it to court. But they can't be allowed to disrupt any services on or near the premises. Nobody has the right to be so disrepectful. ANNA

Given the fact that they seem to do nothing but travel around North America making fools and public nuisances of themselves, they obviously don't have jobs (nor, I suspect, have they ever _had_ jobs)...

I am sickened to the bone concerning the treatment of children in this nation and other and how very often they are forgotten in the midst of all forms of communication or dialogue regarding the future of America and the world. Fred Phelps wants to save babies and hates gays ( among other) but Fred probably doesn't realize that out of nearly 30 thousand suicide deaths in America, a disproportionate number of these suicides are young gay children. Does Fred know that out of a disproportionate number of children, and in the millions, children are taking anti-psychotic medications because they are gay? Does Fred realize that many that millions of children are abused and sexually assaulted each year in America alone. I wonder if Fred realizes that he and others like him are responsible in their hatred, of creating these deaths and assaults which are the result of hatred like Phelps.

The Obamas are a real, functioning family--you can tell. In an interview with Michelle, she said that they've all talked about Barack as President, even to the extent that something may happen to him while he's in office. I'm sure those young women (who grow up in disconcerting increments every time I see a new picture) are sophisticated enough to feel sorry for the Phelpses in all their tatty unglory.

But that's more sophisticated than I am, so let me say that they all deserve a boot up their ugly asses, and an extra one for Chelsea Clinton, on general principles.

I also hope the bikers who defend the funerals of fallen soldiers from the Phelps Creeps are out in force to provide lungs full of lethal burnt hydrocarbons.

The Audacity of Crazy

I'm having some difficulty trying to figure out the 'logic' which connects this ideology.
The Abortion and gay marriage has been inexplicably linked for decades now. It's a given.
But protesting soldiers funerals and schools seems counterintuitive. Obbviously anyone who does not abid by their Gods rules are damned, whether muslim, gay or pro choice. Enemies regardless, since they refuse to bow down to their gods will. You'd think they would be hailing the Military since it has yet to allow Gays to serve openly. You'd think they would at least commend the DoD for that act of oppression.
Weirder is the fact they claim to be champions of babies- but not once they are children? This group was intimidating children. No doubt distracting them from their studies. Placing them in the crosshairs of some adult issue. Not to mention the disturbing visual accompaniments and vitrol screaming. Essentially placing ALL these schoolchildren on the Frontlines of the battle.
These are the scourge of not just of civilized society, but of the Christian faith.

It's bad enough the Westboro Baptist "Church" hatemeisters create misery for the grieving famies of fallen soldiers, but to pick on the children of the President is an atrocity! Have they no shame? Jesus would be ashamed of them!

Religion and the resultant religiosity make me squirm, itch and sometimes angry. What never ceases to amaze me, and I am speaking as a member of the GLBT community,is our capacity for tolerance and our willingness to look the other way. The Westboro Baptist Bozo's have done everything they can possibly do to make themselves the most disgusting and most despised people in America, yet there seems to be no end to their nonsense in sight.Demonstrating outside an elementary school has to be the all time low for this inbred trash from Kansas.Actually there have been several instances where I thought that the westboro bunch had gone too far yet they are still out there. This boggles the mind and has also become a rather sick sense of pride in that they are allowed to continue spreading their poison with no retribution from any segment of society.Has their church ever been bombed? Have they ever been the recipients of anti xian graffiti even? Where is the anger that would normally plague a group like the westboro Bozo's? These are the thoughts that go through my mind every time I see these idiots, and then I remember just how compassionate, tolerant, and so above it all the GLBT community is.I must give a shout out to society as a whole also for our shared tolerance of nutjobs and their dangerous rhetoric. The USA is without question a nation of tolerant and compassionate people,if this were not true then the Phelps gang would have been executed long ago.

Wouldn't it be fun to dress up in costume and protest outside their church every Sunday? LOL Let's fight fire with fire!
They are counting on our sense of decorum and decency...that we as civilized folks will be tolerant of their "antics". Most people will ignore them and drive on...

Sign me up! I have a few Sundays to devote to it.

These "crazies" are from the Baptist Churches who in unchristian ways teach that children in Africa are witches!!! Come on, give me a break!!!The Bible belt of America is filled to the top of the silo with witch hunters on every level. They think they are God's soldiers. I hope to see them all wailing in Hell someday if there is a Hell.

Clearly Phelps has no influence anymore than those in insane asylum; so why bother. However,
it is nice to compare how progressives turn a blind eye(in general) to Islamic ideaology which threatens all the freedoms that progressives are in support; and this idealogy has teeth as seen in suicide bombers; killing of gays; raping virgins so they then be put to death; Iran tearing down antennaes to prevent their people from knowing about the world; a ruler in N Korea who made into a God where children are punished for supposed acts of their parents; where cuba has gulags; so why bother with Phelps who has no powers. Progressive claptrap.

If the Obamas want to have love, peace, and non-violence taught to their beautiful girls, they couldn't have chosen a better place for it.

These people are the lowest of the low. They are kicking people while they're down and attacking children who can't defend themselves. Where's the "Godliness" in this?

Great picture in the Washington Post of the hate sign protestors and the kids at Sidwell Friends across the street in silent protest, holding a sign that said "There is that of God in all of us". Contrast couldn't have been more stark. Students: 1, Fred Phelps: 0.
