Today, House Judiciary Committee leaders sent a letter to Karl Rove’s laywer, Robert Luskin, rejecting Rove’s offer to answer questions on his involvement in the Don Siegelman prosecution and other issues in writing. They wrote that, considering Rove’s willingness to speak to the media on the subject, “we can see no justification for his refusal to speak on the record to the Committee”:

As our previous letters have made clear, the Siegelman case is a principal reason for our invitation to Mr. Rove. But as we have also explained, that issue cannot be separated from the broader concerns about politicization within the Department and the U.S. Attorney firings, and Mr. Rove has made on-the-record comments to the media about all these interrelated matters. […]

Since you indicate Mr. Rove is now willing to submit written answers to questions, which by definition would be recorded in a manner similar to a transcript, we do not understand why he would not submit to providing transcribed answers to live questions, as he has done in media interviews.

In April, Luskin had indicated that Rove would testify if Congress subpoenaed him. By the end of the month, Luskin backed away from the pledge, claiming he had been taken out of context.

Karl 'Goebbels' Rove

The reason he doesn't want to go 'live' or under oath is because his entire White House career constitutes a study in spin and lies, and even a bright spin-meister like Rove cannot be expected to keep his tangled web straight. He's really afraid of being caught with a stained blue dress or something, or creating additional gossipy-headaches for the GOP which is under his guidance. His willingness to be nailed with Obstruction/Contempt of Congress reflects his knowledge that a Bush Pardon is certain... Delay, Delay, Delay, Delay the Day of Reckoning, the '08 SElections are almost here.

Issue the damned subpoena already! Hasn't Rove (and the rest of the crooks) gotten away with enough? The contempt with which they hold Congress is unbelievable! Congress needs to start in "rehearsals" for their 2009 Session... investigations, and prosecutions of all these criminals! And when John Edwards is Atty. Gen., he can prosecute them and make sure they all serve out looooooong jail sentences... in the General Population of the average Federal Penitentiary!

**that felt good!**

What is it with these guys the NEVER want to testify under oath (wish we had the privledge when hauled before congress) OR even have a transcript made .
This is the same deal they made when Bush and Cheney were questioned by the 911 Commission . A commission that they had adamantly opposed .

I love seeing these chickens run.

I wonder what Lufkin is going to do now? Rove's lawyer is a progressive Democrat who is a master at the kind of legal maneuverings needed by politicians in trouble, as well as an expert media manipulator.

Rove wants to have his own way, i.e. wants to talk to the press and not to Congress, and Lufkin bluffed with a member of the press saying Rove will testify if subpoenaed. The Lufkin/Rove ship is suffering the effects of loose lips, and it will be interesting to see how they get out of it. IF they get out of it.

I want to see Karl do the perp walk in cuffs. At that point, I will regain some of my faith in the American political system.

This case is about BLATANT manipulation of the judicial system to put a political opponent in jail. Can't win the election? Have your opponent falsely smeared and thrown in jail! Who needs votes when you control the justice system? Joseph Stalin would be proud!

If we had decent media, this story would be ALL OVER THE PLACE! This makes Watergate look like trivial child's play.

am I the only person who suspects ROVE QUIT TO SUPPORT CLINTON'S CAMPAIGN?

seriously.

think beyond the "party" model corruption identification & look at financial 'power' backing...

& I still have to believe that Rove left... not because he was done 'creating a GOP ascendancy' or to avoid prosecution, but because Rove is a true PNAC supporter.

They've already sucked the Republican party dry... maybe he left to jump ship & sail into the sunset with the Clinton 'post-NAFTA', "NAFTA-on-steroids Security & Prosperity Partnership"reforms...

...which would probably distill Rove's quote down to, "neeNERneeeNERneeeeeeNER!!"

"it takes a village": Hillary Clinton's campaign debt...
