The Washington Post revealed today that the Bush administration knew of a massive Pakistani nuclear reactor in the works -- capable of producing 50 warheads/year -- but didn't tell congress.

And the article contains what may well be the quote of the year (in bold type):

"What is baffling is that this information -- which was surely information that our own intelligence agencies had -- was kept from Congress," said Sokolski, now director of the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center. "We lack imagination if we think that this is no big deal."

As Marcy Wheeler notes, the Bush administration hid disputes over Iraqi capabilities, dismissed a memo disputing the Niger claims and, not as widely known, it hid information on North Korean nuclear capability (much farther along than Iraq's) just prior to the vote to invade Iraq.

And now this. But it gets worse. In Ron Suskind's One Percent Doctrine -- which has already burned through two highlighter pens -- he delves deep into the Pakistan/U.S. relations, a dumpster dive if I've ever seen one.

The world's foremost supplier of nuclear technology to anyone with a checkbook, A.Q. Khan -- friend and adviser to Pakistan's dictator, Musharraf -- was busy, according to the CIA in 2001 (THAT'S 2001), dealing nuclear technology to Iran.

So the Bush administration knew that Iran, Libya, and North Korea were receiving weapons technology from their Pakistani allies' friend and adviser, yet they chose to invade Iraq.

A footnote: the "disarming" of Libya was a complete and total lie -- a fabrication.

Gadhafi and the Bush administration had been negotiating a mutually beneficial deal for quite some time, through Musa Kousa, Ghadafi's close adviser.

Kousa turned over intelligence on terrorists to the U.S. -- and negotiated a settlement with the Pan Am Lockerbie families -- in exchange for a high profile Libyan WMD disarmament intended to look like a success for the Bush/Cheney doctrine of Kick Arab Asses till the say Uncle.

Suskind writes, on page 271:

As for George W. Bush, he got to say, countless times, the thing he desperately wanted to say to help offset the crumbling Iraq experiment, a measurable "saving face" aria: that Gadhafi had given up his weapons because of how the U.S. invasion of Iraq had changed the landscape.

That was false, as were, in essence, almost all the public statements by all the involved parties in this so-called "double-play." It wasn't a matter of misstatement: whether it was Musharraf or Bush, everyone knew they were lying.

It's no surprise that the Bush administration has lied to us yet again. The evidence only continues to pile to support the case that the Iraq War is nothing but a farce. We are still in league with Egypt, the largest terrorist supporter. Follow the money trail. It's about oil. Peace.

Congress: MAKE UP YOUR MINDS!

Nixon had to resign over it; Clinton was nearly impeached - for LYING TO CONGRESS. The latter wasn't even about anything of real consequence - it was the principle that he LIED to Congress, and it's ILLEGAL to lie to Congress. PERIOD. DAMMIT!

Bush has just proved - AGAIN! - that given the chance (meaning he has to answer a question put to him ; no more than that), he WILL lie to Congress. Now Congress must make a decision: are they a legitimate part of this government or not? If so, the law says it is illegal to lie to them, and Bush has done so EVERY time he has opened his smirking mouth to say anything to them.

It's really getting down to put-up-or-shut-up time, and if they don't act, they may as well resign - if Bush doesn't disband them by executive fiat (excuse me: by Executive Order) - and go home. At least if they did that, we could either get some REAL reps in there, or get the revolution started, as suggested by Jefferson, Lincoln and others. As it is, those useless, fat-assed chair-warmers are just taking up (and pretty much wasting) space. And money, of course.

We need another Boston Tea Party, but this time we should consider throwing the Congress overboard. Pollution aside, THAT might be a statement comprehensible even to professional politicians, who do not speak or understand ordinary English.

A modern day Boston Tea Party sounds good. We also need an American Bastille Day. Reduce the corporate hq of Fox News, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS etc to bug dust and get a press that will tell us what is REALLY going on and Bush wouldn't be ABLE to lie to Congress and would tell us the truth when he tries. It has been so long since I heard it, wasn't it Bush's beloved Bible that says "And the truth shall set you free"?

The lies and crimes just keep on piling up but the deepest shit is yet to come. I lost track of all the impeachable offenses the Bushies have done. We desperately need to impeach the Bushies but the current establishment of both parties is dead against it. What this indicates is that financial corruption is so vast in DC that they band together to keep the truth hidden.

said before...we are stuck with "king georgie halibush". Look at the events now happening. The fucking world is falling apart at the seams. This war in the Middle East is just one of the steps that these CRIMINAL PUKES have engineered. I doubt there will be mid-term elections. We will soon be "PROTECTED" by the DECIDER IN CHIEF and the rest of his goon squad....until of course the world goes up in a mushroom cloud or two...

IT doesn't matter how many lies you all find, we are living in a dictatorship and as long as you deny that, NOTHING will change. However, overthrowing this George will be a hell of a lot harder if impossible because you will be labeled a "terrorists", picked up, put in a camp and that will be last your family will hear of any of you. In fact they will probably pick up your entire family to ensure that no one else in that "terrorists" family will try to do an overthrow..... YOU see the American people have given away their REPUBLIC to a dictator and his buddies and we/you ain't getting out. WE/YOU had just best keep your head down and live the best you can until the whole damm world's economy goes under and maybe THEN(?) there will be a chance to over throw this George. Plus you really don't expect them to give up the thron, the gold, the rule, do you? Even if you get your wish to not have George again in 2008 or his brother Jeb, IT will still be a dictatorship...... THAT is what all you folks don't get.... YOU ARE living in a dictatorship now!!!!!!!!!!!! Period!!!!!!!

I have been screaming that very thing starting shortly after January 20 2000. Newt Gingrich and his merry minions started governing by the Nazi playbook in 1995 and Georgie the wouldbe Inquisition are following in lockstep.
