Republicans screw the troop

Posted by Evan Derkacz at 3:02 PM on February 7, 2006.

Rumsfeld's new slogan: You go to war with the army you have left
armor-met-1
Never having seen battle, Rumsfeld ordered 50k of these by mistake.

The linguistically slippery bumper sticker phrase support the troops has tortured the Enlightenment-lovin' ears of many a liberal by cornering them into conflating support for the troops with support for the war.

Antiwar = anti-troops in that understanding.

Progressives have sought to "recapture" the phrase by pairing it with ...bring them home though admittedly, these are both ways of spinning a phrase that has almost no intrinsic meaning.

The only real meaning for support the troops is by providing them with the essentials they need to protect themselves and with adequate benefits upon their return... and for a lifetime.

It's not only the ethical thing to do but it's also a national security issue as it promotes future enlistment. A sufficient military. Security.

That's why, without spin or equivocation, I can safely say that Bush and the Republicans do not support the troops. Again. To say otherwise is to risk linguistic irrelevance. And you don't want that.

Bob Geiger quotes Democrat Chris Dodd, arguing for a pro-vet amendment, supported by the American Legion: "We know last year that over 100,000 Iraqi veterans returned home. Yet the administration's fiscal year 2006 budget for the VA was only prepared to handle 23,000 veterans... There are shortfalls in every state across the country. There are shortfalls in private facilities as well as public ones. This amendment is for us finally to say let's do something for these people."

Geiger comments: "So what’s the big problem with Dodd’s legislation? It asks for a minor rollback in the capital gains tax cuts the Bush administration has given to the richest one-fifth of one percent of Americans..."

And just like the other amendment that would roll back some tax cuts for the wealthy to buy armor that the troops, it fell 53-44.

Keep screwing the troops to line the pockets of the wealthy and Rumsfeld's You go to war with the army you have will be revised to You go to war with the army you have left. (BobGeiger)

Soldier pays for armor
Army demanded $700 from city man who was wounded

I really fail to understand why anyone would even contemplate signing on in the first place.

Or are Americans so dumb they can't see the wood for the trees ?

Magnetic Ribbons and the Yellowcake of Faith

When we wake puking shame
at last, and know the dream
for sham, embraced en masse...
When bells that rang victorious
hang mute, their tarnished claims
ignored in disrepute, and
bitter sons, having been all they
could be, can't wish back innocence
or the leg below the knee...

(This brash regime's trimmed reason
from its ranks, its black guard
in the street, protecting flanks.)

...then will we heed the schemers'
gloating leer? "There's no future
for any of you here."
Row on row, with hand
in trembling hand, it's come to this.
WE DREAMERS NEED TO STAND!

Could someone please post those 53 Senators who Chose to support their Contributors over the Troops .

Every Defense bill should be fillabusted UNLESS it requires
a Tax Increase to pay for the war . If they DARE to say
this is anti war and against the troops .WE should defiently
point out just who won't require sacrifice to properly EQUIP
and take care of our troops . Perhaps we should plan a large rally in Washington in which this issue is the focal Point .

Another way they are not supporting the troops is by charging them for equipment they were issued that is not in new and pristine condition. If a soldier is injured, and his body armor is destroyed, when the person is released from Iraq, he must pay the Army for the body armor. If a troop is released back to the US and his body armor is not in new condition, the soldier must pay the Army for it. What kind of country do we live in? I find this apalling.

All I can say is that I should consider myself fortunate that I was discharged from the U.S. Naval Academy for being a queer. Rumsfeld is going to be so desperate for new recruits that soon the military will be recruting homosexuals. On the one hand, I think that is great (to allow gays to serve openly) but on the other hand, claiming you are queer will not be a reason to disqualify you. Could it be that these brownshirts are purposely making our military impotent? These bastards are trying to destroy this country.

Please be aware that Our Contry while never perfect is now being destroyed by people in our goverment because they are rich enough to be citizens of the world and they no longer need the middle class or any other American who wants a government by the people and for the people just a bunch of uninformed masses that will believe anything said to them. So there is nothing that can be done by Americans that care. Support our Troops hell we can't even support our homeland (La. Miss.) Look at the trailers in Ark. waiting for flood victims. Please! there is nothing that can be done.
