As a last resort a former Lockheed Martin employee created this video alleging "serious safety and security issues relating to homeland security, specially the US Coast Guard."

Transcript of introduction to this video:

"What I'm going to tell you is going to seem preposterous and unbelievable. It may be very hard for you to believe that our government and the largest defense contractor in the world is capable of such alarming incompetence and can make ethical compromises as glaring as I am going to describe. Having said that, I assure you that everything I am stating here is accurate.

I have resorted to creating this video because I have exhausted every avenue I can think of. And in spite of the negative effects it's had, or will have on me and my family, I feel very strongly that I need to take this step in order to resolve these issues. The purpose of this video is to ask for your assistance in helping me resolve several serious safety and security issues relating to homeland security, specially the US Coast Guard."

Yes indeed, I understand the ramification of what you describe - having been an engineer and having worked in the world of DoD contracts. The sadness I feel from watching this poor schmuck is familiar. Wanting to do "the right thing" and trying endlessly to work towards that end. Fulfilling contractual obligations over the objections of those who simply look at the bottom line. Whether or not the specs are appropriate (and especially if they are) by golly, that's what was bid and won. Trying to meet (or beat) budget and delivery standards while performing an honorable task, yet knowing that you're already being devoured in the belly of the beast. But don't - whatever you do - jeopardize the contract or draw attention to the wasteful disbursement of taxpayer money. That'll get you fired. Or worse. There are plenty of things worse then getting fired, if you threaten these folks.

Just makes an old engineer want to cry. By the way, the title of this post is relevant: it has been said that if you could meet this particularly obscure spec, then you could meet them all...

This young man exemplfies what our government has done to the average citizen - we are at extemes: risking career and family to be heard, to warn of wrong-doing OR sitting on one's hands, looking the other way and letting Big Brother bully the nation. Until a disaster happens, then opps, some big shot gets a slap on the hand, the little guys get fired, and all is well in America. Call your congressional representatives and demand they investigate Lockheed and the procedures of the US Coast Guard.

Just sent an email (via their websites) to my Senators Burr and Dole both from North Carolina regarding his video and the issue. I wrote:

"You need to look at this video regarding Coast Guard boats that Lockheed-Martin is upgrading, yet they are wasting money and knowingly failing to meet the technical specifications needed to equip the ships needed to guard our coastlines."

Let's see what happens... TomF, Charlotte, N.C.
