Black Republican Gets Enraged Over Katrina at RNC

The Young Turks have been broadcasting all week long from the Republican National Convention. We have had some really interesting interviews with Duncan Hunter, Heather Wilson, Bob Barr, Sen. Dan Coats, Rep. Bob Latta, Joe Klein, Michael Medved and the list goes on (you can check out a lot of these interviews on our You Tube Channel here).

Although there were great disagreements in many of these interviews, none of them got out of hand ... except one. The founder of HipHopRepublicans.com took exception when I suggested that George Bush might have been late in responding to Hurricane Katrina. He said he was shocked that I would suggest that late response might have cost some people's lives.

He proceeded to knock my mike down and then hit our camera on his way out. He also got within inches of my face as he stood over me.

 

Many people are wondering how this ended after he hit the camera. That knocked the stream off the air for a little while and then we got it back up and actually finished the interview with the other woman who was there. She concluded by saying we could privatize the fire department and that people who didn't buy in earlier would get burned (literally, in this case) for their lack of foresight. That way they would wisen up next time around (if there is a next time). But at least she was civil about her extreme libertarian positions, which I appreciated.

Seems like you lost control of the interview quickly and never regained your footing. Neither side really wanted to listen to the other which I hear a lot. Everybody wants to talk but no one wants to listen.

Trying to argue logically with a conservative is like trying to teach a pig to sing. It just can't be done. They think by talking in a raised voice that it makes their argument more reasonable.
You have my sympathy with trying to deal with those two dimwits. Apparently in their little minds government is only responsible for the courts, military and police. Kids aren't to be educated in public schools, no social safety net, no publicly financed roads and bridges, the list goes on and on. Yeah that is the kind of world I want to live in--NOT!

I couldn't make it all the way through the clip. This did not seem like useful discourse to me.... I know that corporate shillduggery occupies too much air and air space and it must be so very tempting to "bring it on", as it were but the "interviewees" didn't get a chance to have an "oh, yeah!" moment... me neither....

I have seen it all now! A black person defending Bush response to Katrina! As a gay man, I can't help it, but my first thought was that he sounded gay, too, which is another phenomenon I can't understand; gay republicans! Not that I have any love for Kanye!

To try discussing anything with a rethuglican is a lesson in futility. They either refuse to listen or flatly just don't GET IT. It's beyond their capability to even understand the questions.

This guy, this bullshit "hiphop" Repuglican, is a flaming moron. He's obviously not very intelligent and that was made obvious by asking questions based on false logic and circular reasoning then interrupting the Turk dude with another question, while becoming more shrill when it was obvious he wasn't going to hear what he wanted. He was causing his own rage and building on it, then becoming more shrill and bizarre in his total non-response to Turks question. He flat refused to answer the first question, BECAUSE HE DIDN'T KNOW THE ANSWER!

What a complete tool.

There were plenty of jews amongst the Nazis too. Its always the same.

What the hell?

The loathing that these two African-Americans have for themselves and for others is sad. Clearly, they've had lots of right-wing media training. Instead of answering questions, they yell over the person asking the question. When they're losing an argument, they yell louder.

And then they pull out the old tired canard of "Well, what did CLINTON do?" as if Bill Clinton is the only Democrat ever to serve as president. Clinton did a damn fine job with FEMA, which was a top-notch organization until Bush destroyed it with corruption and cronyism. Just consider the Federal response to Hurricane Andrew - the most powerful storm to strike the US until Katrina - and the incredible job of rebuilding South Florida afterwards.

The GOP is simply morally and ideologically BANKRUPT. They do not have answers to any of the challenges America faces. They cling to their ideology even when it fails time after time. That's why they've tried to make this election about personalities and celebrity instead of issues. They have NOTHING to run on!

It must really suck to be a Black Republican. In some ways it is even worse than being a Gay Republican. But in both cases, self-hatred is a requirement. No self-respecting person could honestly support a party that so openly works against the interests of minorities.

These are the same people who helped white slave traders capture their own people.

These are the same people who, while beating an African American for master, telling the slave "yu ned to obey massa an do wa he tell ya".

These are the same people that said MLK need to sit down and leave well enough alone.

These are the same people that helped in MLK's government assassination.

These are the same people that shot Macomb X.

These are the same people you see on Sean Hannity and other racist Fox programs being paid to say what the KKK wants them to.

These are the same people on the present BUSH administration payroll.

But they all will vote secretively for Obama, so they want leave a legacy of dishonor and disgrace to their children.

What a rude, duplicitious, hysterical thug. I guess the reason he's so obsessed with shouting down his interviewer and changing the terms of the discussion in ridiculous ways is that if he responded honestly to the real questions it would reveal him as the pathetic power-courting uncle tom that he is.

No decent human being can in good conscience deny that the Bush administration's response to katrina was disastrous, bumbling, callous, incompetent. This guy should be ashamed of himself.

If you can have any sort of civil conversation with someone and avoid getting all aggressive. its really rude when you get in someones face because they cant talk to you anymore. if you would stop crying maybe someone could listen to you.

When the interviewer was describing what he thought government was for.


Here is the answer that even conservatives should be able to digest:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
