Today marks six years since former President Bush launched the invasion of Iraq -- a preventive war of choice based on “intelligence fixed around the policy.” Since that time, hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent, over 4,000 U.S. servicemen and women and hundreds more from coalition countries have died (tens of thousands more physically and mentally wounded), nearly 100,000 (or more) Iraqi civilians have parished and nearly 5 million have been displaced. Yet the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, and many other major American newspapers are ignoring the anniversary today. Only USA Today printed a story noting the anniversary of the invasion. Today’s Progress Report has more on the good, the bad, and the ugly of developments surrounding the Iraq war over the last year.

Update: Check out ThinkProgress's updated timeline of the Iraq war.

THE IRAQ INVASION WAS NEVER REPORTED

There was minimum coverage for a short time and then almost none at all. Anyone curious about what was going on and wondering about numbers of dead and other annoying things had to look beyond standard news coverage. It continues to be a disgrace. The entire Bush Administration and everything that happened during that 8 years is what ruined news and newspapers. They were inept and incompetent. Now they are paying the price, but so are the rest of us. ANNA

If there is any person left who had any doubt that Americans are brain washed this should remove it.

"I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded, who cry aloud for more blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell."

-- William Tecumseh Sherman

In an address at a military academy, 15 years after the end of the Civil War.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzalez, Ashcroft, Paulson, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity, Savage, both Clintons, Schumer, Gingrich, George Will, and the rest of the "Tough Guys."
Chicken hawks always TALK tough, but NEVER walk the walk! When it was their turn, somehow they all avoided going to war.

No doubt that 9-11, like Pearl Harbor, needed to be avenged, but Bush had another agenda.

There was no doubt that 9-11, like Pearl Harbor, needed to be avenged,

no doubt that 9-11, like Pearl Harbor, needed to be avenged,
but Bush had another agenda.Bush, Cheney, and appointees lied about WMD, aluminum tubes, and Niger Uranium to con Congressno doubt that 9-11, like Pearl Harbor, needed to be avenged,
but Bush had another agenda. into approving an invasion of Iraq, a country that did not have anything to do with 9-11.

In WW-II, in 4 years, FDR put 13,000,000 men in the fight, beat 3 dictatorships, their leaders dead at the end.

After 7 years of War On Terror, neither Bush nor Cheney could find Osama Bin Laden, our US reputation is in the gutter, we're still at war, over 4,200 US Soldiers are dead, over 30,000 maimed for the Bush-Cheney arrogance and lies. They ordered Torture, a violation of Federal Law.

If we as a people hope to force our public officials to obey our laws and our Constitution,
the time is Now
and the way to do it is
to prosecute members of the Bush administration
who violated Federal Laws,
including the law against Torturing prisoners.

The reason that we continue to have unnecessary wars of choice is
that our Congress makes excuses for lawbreaking officials instead of impeaching or prosecuting them.

Unless Obama's statement that “no one is above the law” is a lie,
Obama must appoint a Special Prosecutor
for Bush, Cheney and the appointee lawyers that advocated Torture, violated many Federal Laws, our Constitution & the Geneva Convention on Torture.
