It’s over l00 degrees in Los Angeles with fires staining the sky and smoke clouding the hillsides.  Yet, over l25 people fill the United Methodist Church on Lincoln blvd, despite the lack of air conditioning. They are there to see RETHINK AFGHANISTAN, to talk and plan action.

I take a look around the room at these smart, committed activists.  I am amazed by their energy; they think, they care.
They have watched, they have read, and they are speaking out in increasing number every-day. “The war in Afghanistan must be stopped!” they say.  “The escalation of troops and money must be stopped!” they demand.

These words are not spoken easily.  Many had thought, at one point, that this was the right war.  Many of them trust, support and even campaigned for President Obama.

And yet, the facts call them to action. The fact that this war will make us less safe, explained by ex-CIA agents . The fact that the presence of foreign troops is the single biggest reason for rise of Taliban, explained by ex-military. And, the fact that we have no exit strategy or plan as to when or how we get out.

We know how easy it is to get into a war, and how hard to get out.
