Israeli Cosmetic Company Is About to Learn It Can't Cover Up Its Role in the Occupation

Ahava is an Israeli profiteer exploiting the natural resources of occupied Palestine to sell its exotic beauty products.

As the dust settled on the destroyed homes, schools and lives in the aftermath of Israel’s assault on Gaza earlier this year, mainstream human rights groups from Amnesty International to Physicians for Human Rights/Israel issued reports condemning Israel’s attack and alleging that the Israeli government and the Israeli Defense Forces had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. The staff of CODEPINK Women for Peace re-opened a discussion of what we could do about Israel’s flagrant flouting of international law and the brutality of the ongoing blockade of Gaza, the occupation of the West Bank and the home demolitions in East Jerusalem. We decided to revisit the idea of a boycott against Israeli products—a boycott that was having more difficulty gaining traction here in the United States than in Europe. But the best way to end an occupation is to make it unprofitable, and one of the best peaceful ways to make something unprofitable is to organize a boycott.

While doing research on the Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement for Palestine, I came across the web site Who Profits, a project of the Israeli Coalition of Women for Peace. On that site I found a list of Israeli and international companies that are directly involved in and profit from the occupation of the Palestinian West Bank. It seemed strategically and morally important to select for our campaign a corporation whose practices were clearly in contravention to international law. Many of the corporations on the Who Profits list were either unfamiliar to me, discouragingly huge, or didn’t seem like obvious targets for a women’s peace group. But I saw one name that I recognized: Ahava Dead Sea Laboratories. In fact, I knew there was a plastic bottle of Ahava Eucalyptus Mineral Bath Salts sitting on the windowsill next to the tub in my bathroom.

If you take a look at Ahava’s web site, you can read about the company’s environmentally responsible practices: “Our manufacturing processes are non-polluting and environmentally conscious. No animals are involved in testing phases and all of our products are encased in recyclable tubes, bottles and jars.” Ahava’s spokeswoman is fresh-faced Sex & The City actress Kristin Davis, whose commitment to doing good is evidenced by her status as an Oxfam Goodwill Ambassador and her position on the advisory board of The Masai Wilderness Conservation Fund. On the Ahava site, Davis is quoted as saying, “My personal beliefs, which include treating both animals and the environment with respect, are equally important to AHAVA.”

If you navigate around the web site you will see pristine images of the Dead Sea, enticing products with beautifully designed labels, and a photo of a water lily leaf with the caption, “This leaf has nothing to hide.” But, unfortunately, Ahava does have something to hide—an ugly secret about its relationship to a brutal occupation. The Hebrew word “Ahava” means love, but there is nothing loving about what the company is doing in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank. Ahava is an Israeli profiteer exploiting the natural resources of occupied Palestine.

AHAVA Dead Sea Laboratories, an Israeli cosmetics company, has situated its main manufacturing plant and showroom at the Israeli Jewish settlement Mitzpe Shalem in the Occupied Palestinian West Bank near the shores of the Dead Sea. Mitzpe Shalem, built on occupied land in 1970, is an illegal settlement, as are all Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Ahava’s capture of Palestinian natural resources from the Dead Sea is, according to the Fourth Geneva Convention, a patently illegal use by an occupying power of stolen resources for its own profit.  To add insult to injury, Ahava’s labels claim that the country of origin of its products is “The Dead Sea, Israel”—this type of labeling has been decried by Oxfam, among other human rights groups, as blatantly misleading.

if Israel could steal the Sun and charge for the light they would.

Carnival Cruise/Princess/Cunard charged America an obscene amount of $$ to 'help-out' the Katrina victims, that's only the tip of the Israeli iceberg of deceit.

Its the Israeli banks that hoard in secret impunity crime/wall street $$. The Swiss wish they could hide behind the crime state:Israel.

Its there they'll find some of Madoff's money.

I've heard of Ahava before and some of this info on them profiting from the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza. I guess I was not aware how much they were profiting!

It's great that you did your due diligence and have decided to begin supporting the Palestinian campaign for Boycott/Divestment/Sanctions against Israel. As someone who supports the Palestinian peoples' quest for self-determination, I find these different actions you guys have taken admirable.

I'm sure it's not easy to show up at a store and then protest them and their products lol. Keep up the good work Nancy and Codepink!

CODEPINK has done actions against AHAVA in Tel Aviv, New York, and Las Vegas already. Donning bikinis and mud to expose AHAVA's dirty secrets, women have shown up in stores, a beauty convention, and Central Park. Photos are here.

Bikinis are perfect: the Israeli Occupation, packaged as beauty and sold to anyone willing to play Sex in the City while paying lip service to the Peace Process. What's behind the leaf? White phosphorous, still burning; bulldozers destroying homes and water supplies; checkpoints, military drones, remote-controlled sniper towers and barrier walls separating people from work, schools and hospitals; some 11,000 Palestinian political prisoners serving indefinite terms in detention and interrogation centers - cages within cages within cages. But no animals were hurt by Ahava's settlement products! In this imported "democracy" one life is worth more than another, but that's not the picture we get in the West. U.S. tax dollars hold up the Occupation, we don't need to purchase it. Thank you Code Pink, for holding up a mirror. Supporting BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) is a direct, positive action.

Following the link provided for the 'Israeli Coalition of Women for Peace' project, 'Who Profits?' provides the information that Chevrolet vans are sold to Israel to be used in service for the illegal defense wall and for Israeli security purposes. Now that these two countries own part of General Motors as shareholders, it seems that we are eagerly and willingly participating in the occupation on Palestine, whatever Mr. Obama may want to do. It ain't right!

The first commnet, is typical anti-semetic stuff. And I agree with the comment that every few days there is more about boycotts of Israel.
Code Pink should go to Afghanstan, or Iran or Tibet and do their actions. Palestinian WOMEN are much better off than most other Arab women, in terms of rights and power.
Why is the focus of this and other boycott groups only Israel? I continue to wonder about the source of this.

As far as I can tell from this article, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the company's product. It is perfectly safe. The only reason you want to boycott it is because the company opened its main office in the West Bank. I guess that's against the Palestinian law not allowing any Jews to live there. The Palestinians have also done a great job of chasing out the Christians, by the way. But ethnic cleansing by Palestinians is okay, right?

Some of the Dead Sea borders Israel and some does not. The subsurface mud is not only Palestinian.

Setting up shop in the illegal settlement is wrong but using mud from the Dead Sea not. The State of Israel has legal right to the use of the contents of the Dead Sea and was awarded access to the Dead Sea in UNGA resolution 181 in 1947 based on the establishment of vital companies like the Palestine Potash Corporation and the Palestine Electrical Corporation.

Israel, even before the 1967 conflict giving Israel total access to the sea, legally mined its mineral wealth and used it for commercial and industrial purposes. Some of the hysteria should be toned down.

Oh "international law", as if such a thing had anything to do with law. It is simply the writ of the powerful, and the powerful in the world since WWII have been those who have been reacting to the atrocities of WWII, even if they're committing atrocities themselves as are many members of the U.N. Council on Human Rights.

This article is just another excrecence from this so-called principle.

The only reason Israel has a so-called West Bank is that it, being a people with moral principles, did not expel all the Palestinians when it wons its various wars against the Arab states. If it had done so, the whole area, except the Palestinians, would be in better shape. Unfortunately for the Palestinians they would have the pleasure of living under Arab justice, an oxymoron if there ever was one, and the Arab states would then have been deprived of the issue they are trying to use to destroy Israel, which is the real objective in all of this.

As to the ladies in the bikinis, they remind me of the comment from my ditch digger uncle who used to cut the grass for Yale faculty members on the weekends and notice the chaos in many of their homes - he.d say "They're trying to solve the problems of the world and they can't run their own homes" shaking his head. Ladies, if the shoe fits, wear it.

Who Is The Wrongful Occupier Of The West Bank?

Who Is The Wrongful Occupier Of The West Bank?

Many consider Israeli Jewish settlements in the West Bank to be wrongful occupations, but an independent research of historical and medical sources of impeccable reliability clearly show that the occupation of large portions of the West Bank by Palestine’s is a wrongful occupation. Now do not take exception to this bold statement until you have open mindedly examined the evidence.

A research product (article) that goes to the historical roots of the situation clearly shows that the Palestinians are really the wrongful occupiers of Hebrew land. Go to the following to see the facts:

I have never seen AlterNet take a look at the scummy impact of the Swiss bankers who provide 'bank secrecy' to all the dictators and mafias of the world.
If you're concerned about where our tax dollars are going, how about a close look at the Iraqi kleptocracy?
If you're concerned about persecution of Muslims, how about a look at India's Northeast or the Iranian mullahs?
If you're concerned about the rights of minorities, how about a look at the Coptic Christians of Egypt or the Christian and Animist minorities in Sudan?
But if you want to stay within your politically correct safety zone, keep giving us all-Israel, all the time

Let’s Face Reality And Put The Blame Where It Belongs – On The Palestinians:

Hi Everyone

Let’s Face Reality And Put The Blame Where It Belongs – On The Palestinians:

Now here is what I said to one poster that had his facts all ‘screwed up’ so as to match his distorted agenda:

WRONG, and you have utterly failed to show a single fact I presented in any of my articles of which I posted links to.

In fact, You have NOT read my article, A research product (article) that goes to the historical roots of the situation clearly shows that the Palestinians are really the wrongful occupiers of Hebrew land. Go to the following to see the facts:

Some Know Neither What Land Title Is Nor History

linked text

This poster said the following ‘crappola’ which is a very big distortion of reality,

“one injustice (americans against native indians) does not justifie any other,
B) We live in the 20th century and have evolved, established democratic rules and laws,
C)Israel has signed the Geneva Convention, art. 49 of which forbids the settlements!
D) Palestinians have a title to that land otherwise how could jews buy their land, and they lived there 2000 years longer than the jews,
E)'the true god'? Comme on, one must not be an atheist to see the ridicule of this argument
F)Israel draws its legality/legitimity from the UN and NOT from the bible,
G) yor comments are pure dialectics, cherry picking the bible when it suits you and simply pervers.

This is clearly shown by what you said at your items A, B, C, E, F, and G.

With respect ‘D’ you clearly show you know nothing of history as there were no Palestinians until the 7 th. Century when their Caliphs stole Hebrew (Jewish) land.

So go read the facts and deal with the truth or reality per John John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (American Standard Version; ASV).

With respect the inspired word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible, You have ignorantly denied the reliability of a book, the inspired word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible, which has been recognized as very credible and reliable for over 3,500 years on the basis it was written by men, but readily accepts less reliable books written often by a single man - how absurd. Of course, if his contention were valid and it is not, it would be applicable to all books - this is just plain insanity and especially so given the fact that the Bible is NOT the product of one committee or strongman. It has over 40 individual writers who wrote under divine inspiration/guidance putting the thoughts of God (YHWH) into the words of men much as transcribing secretaries today taking transcription and then later typing it out. In other words one real author, God (YHWH), and many scribes each of whom wrote in his own style over a period of approximately 1,600 years. All of what people call or consider inconsistencies are really not such, but most often just a problem of translation and/or understanding, i.e., lack of understanding of what the original writer writing in his own language and culture meant/said in his original writing. What is remarkable, is the writers over such a period of time all wrote in harmony when even most posters on threads on this forum can not even stay on track or subject over a period of a few days and/or weeks at most with the original subject of the thread. This fact of harmony over a period so great as to almost stagger the imagination shows that it had one guiding force or author who divinely inspired its writers as humans of their own volition can not keep on track over short periods of time.

Part Two of 'Let’s Face Reality And Put The Blame Where It Belongs – On The Palestinians:'

To wit, the Bible is the ONLY book God (YHWH) ever inspired men to write as his scribes. In other words, God is its author and men only put his thoughts given to them by divine inspiration into their own words, the words of men. Not only that, all the other writers of later so called religious guidance books borrowed from it and made changes in accord with their strong man or so called prophet. Take the example of Joseph Smith who borrowed from it to write the Book of Mormon, but failed to give credit or source to the Bible and twisted some borrowed things into bizarre distortions. Other examples are of course the bizarre writings of David Koresh the Prophet of the Branch Dividians of Waco, Texas; and the Quran, etc.

The reliability of this book has been testified to through the ages and over 6 billion copies have been printed, and this can not be denied. It is a fact that many more copies exist of the inspired word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible, than all other Holy books and history books combined.

Now his original question was,

""WRONG, Stolen property should be returned to its original owners and time is NOT a factor."

Does this mean the Americas should be returned to the surviving original ihnabitants, native americans?

I am truly interested in your thoughts on this matter. Please have the courtesy to reply."

Now go to the link provided above and you will see that his question was very well answered with fact and reality and NOT personal opinion.

For more details, go to,

Civilization and the Bible

Of course this poster is NOT the lone revisionist, he has lots of crazy companions such as the President of Iran, Mahmond Ahmnadinejad, who contends all the world history books are wrong and that the holocaust never occurred. Of course this is just plain crazy as most well know, and I personally have spoken with individuals who went through the holocaust - but of course the President of Iran, Mahmond Ahmnadinejad, is just a liar and election stealer. It is of course common for revisionist to be crazy and only believe and/or carry out for their own sick agenda.

Some Make False Accusations To Cloud The Truth – This Is Just Plain Wrong

One poster falsely accuses me of not thinking for myself and wrongly attacks the inspired word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible, by using the age old trick of taking things out of context. Now let’s look at the facts.

This individual says in his post to me,

“Think for yourself for a moment, Iris”

Yet he/she is clearly NOT thinking for himself/herself, nor doing any deep thinking.

Now let’s look at a brief history of my childhood that clearly shows that I think for myself whereas most other individuals really do not.

[When I was a very young girl in my native village, I never knew there were individuals so absurd as to believe in and pay adoration to worldly philosophers instead of to Almighty God (YHWH). I did know there were false god(s) and that some people even considered the ruler of their nation was a god such as the ancient Babylonians, Egyptians, etc., but I never imagine there were individuals so blind to reality, the truth per John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (American Standard Version; ASV) that they would pay adoration to egotistical worldly philosophers and quote their absurd nonsense as if they considered it sacred scripture. As one individual, a cult member, I usually strongly disagree with brought out by posting the following scripture, Jeremiah 2:19, "Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts." (ASV); ti wit, These individuals that pay adoration to worldly philosophers and treat their egotistical self-centered writings were for me as a young girl just unimaginable. I well knew of false god(s) such as the mythical god, the old middle eastern celestial Moon god, "Allah," who only exist in the imaginations of deceived men, but has no physical existence, and others, but I never thought anyone would be so absurd as to put their faith in worldly philosophers and the egotistical nonsense they write.

As I have said in part before, When I was a very young girl brought up in a religiously divided household I could readily see both cult religions represented were completely wrong. When I was about eight years old, I started a search for the true religion as I well knew neither Catholicism (RCC) nor Islam could be that. I was constantly at the local library in my native village trying to learn more and by the time I was about 10 years old, I had taught myself to read English since most of the books on history and religion were either in English or German. I selected English as I considered it the up and coming language.

Part Two of 'Some Make False Accusations To Cloud The Truth – This Is Just Plain Wrong'

My grandfather, when I was a little girl in my native village, taught me early on to never waste anything. I was brought up in a mixed family religious wise, but by the time I was about 8 years old and I had already ascertained that neither Islam or Catholicism held any truth, and had already determined they only contained creedal hogwash dogma and tradition. I did a rigorous search visiting libraries and checking encyclopedias, dictionaries, history books, etc. and in the process improved my reading and comprehension skills to a level far above my peers in school. I even taught myself how to read English, as I said previously, a foreign language for me, as it was NOT one of the two or three languages used in my home or community. My father died when I was only 6 years old, and my grandfather took over the task of raising myself and my sisters and brothers. He raised us like he taught raw recruits when he was in the Legion, strictly military style with daily cadence marches before school. But he taught us to be independent and able to take care of ourselves and to think for ourselves, and that most religion was just plain phony. I learned to cultivate rice and wade in a rice patty, how to grow sugar cane, sweet potatoes, lettuce, etc. And my mother taught us how to cook all of our native dishes - mostly rice and bean dishes with a little bit of chicken. Until I went to New York City I had never heard of or eaten a hamburger or hot dog. But when my aunt took me to Coney Island, she got me both plus a candy corn cone. Subways were a mystery to me at first, as I thought it strange to go down into the earth to catch a train as the sugar cane train in my native village ran above ground.

When I was about 12, I was sent away from my native village to another country because the family thought I needed to learn more and I had exhausted the resources of our small library. They sent me to another country to a city with great library resources, New York City, USA. I loved the main library of that city in Manhattan, it had exceptionally great resources and even had electric lights so you did not have to sit by a window to read. Of course I had a problem the first year in the school there as all classes were in English which I had taught myself to read well, but I could NOT speak English as it was not one of the three languages I heard in my native village. By the age of 13, I saw most religions were totally wrong, but had narrowed my search to about 7 among which was the SDA. But the SDA when I did a comparison check in the big book that listed a 105 doctrines across the top in columns and religions in rows, page after page, I could see they were also in error.]

So as can readily be seen, I have been thinking for myself from a very early age; therefore, any statement accusing me of NOT thinking for myself is just an outright untruth and pure ‘hogwash.’

With respect the Bible,

the Bible, is the most reliable source of information and has been proven so time and time again by archaeology and there are many books out there detailing the archaeological finds that confirm the accuracy of the Bible.

You make wild, but unsubstantiated, claims against the Bible and that is entirely wrong.

You also overlook the fact that in my research product (article) that there are more evidence given from the Qur'an than the Bible, and by far more the evidence and sources given by very credible historical and medical sources, so what is your problem?

FALSE CLAIMS AND CHALLENGES BY ONE NOT KNOWING THE FACTS:

FIRST, Your claim that the Philistines are the same as the Palestines is complete and utter ‘hogwash.’

[[[“(Phi·lis′ti·a), Philistines (Phi·lis′tines).
Covering an area from a point near Joppa in the N down to Gaza in the S, Philistia stretched for about 80 km (50 mi) along the Mediterranean Sea (Ex 23:31) and extended some 24 km (15 mi) inland. “The sea of the Philistines” evidently refers to the part of the Mediterranean that bordered the coast of Philistia. The sand dunes along the coast penetrate the land for a considerable distance, sometimes for as much as 6 km (3.5 mi). Apart from this, the region is fertile and supports grain, olive groves, and fruit trees.
During a major part of the Hebrew Scripture period, the Philistines occupied the coastal plain and were among Israel’s avowed enemies. (Isa 9:12; 11:14) An uncircumcised (2Sa 1:20), polytheistic people (Jg 16:23; 2Ki 1:2; see BAAL-ZEBUB; DAGON), the Philistines superstitiously consulted their priests and diviners to make decisions. (1Sa 6:2; compare Isa 2:6.) And their warriors, when going into battle, carried idols of their gods. (2Sa 5:21) Within their land, known as Philistia (Ex 15:14; Ps 60:8; 87:4; 108:9; Isa 14:29, 31), lay the cities of Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, and Gath. For centuries each of these cities was ruled over by an axis lord.—Jos 13:3; 1Sa 29:7; see AXIS LORDS.
History. The island of Crete (usually held to be identical with Caphtor), though not necessarily the original home of the Philistines, was the place from which they migrated to the coast of Canaan. (Jer 47:4; Am 9:7; see CAPHTOR; CRETE.) Just when this migration began is uncertain. However, as early as the time of Abraham and his son Isaac, Philistines resided at Gerar in southern Canaan. They had a king, Abimelech, and an army under the command of a certain Phicol.—Ge 20:1, 2; 21:32-34; 26:1-18; see ABIMELECH Nos. 1 and 2.” [source – Insight on the Scriptures, Vol. II ] ]]]

And,

[[[“Most authorities agree that the Philistines are not indigenous to the regions of Israel/Palestine which the Bible describes them inhabiting. The Bible contains roughly 250 references to the Philistines or Philistia, and repeatedly refers to them as "uncircumcised", just like the Semitic peoples, such as Canaanites, which the Bible relates encountered the Israelites following the Exodus. (See, e.g., 1 Samuel 17:26-36, 2 Samuel 1:20, Judges 14:3)
It has been suggested that the Philistines formed part of the great naval confederacy, the "Sea Peoples," who had wandered, at the beginning of the 12th century BC, from their homeland in Crete and the Aegean islands to the shores of the Mediterranean and repeatedly attacked Egypt during the later Nineteenth Dynasty. Though they were eventually repulsed by Ramesses III, he finally resettled them, according to the theory, to rebuild the coastal towns in Canaan.” [source - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ]]]

And,

[[[“Philistine (people), one of a people of Aegean origin who settled on the southern coast of Palestine in the 12th Century BC” [source - Britannica online encyclopedia]]]
The Palestine’s are Ishmael mites; whereas, the Philistines are of ancient Greek stock. You really know NOTHING of history and need to do some research instead of posting nonsense challenges to me that clearly expose your know-nothing ignorance.

THIRD, Israel is just the rebirth of the ancient Kingdom of the Hebrews after a long hiatus, and nothing more, and that on land that belongs to them.

The Jews are NOT promoting brain washing children in military training
camps, teaching them how to blow themselves up and cause maximum
deaths of Jews and other non Muslims !

The Jews don't hijack planes, nor kill athletes at the Olympics, or blow
themselves up in German restaurants. There is NOT one single Jew
that has destroyed a church. There is NOT a single Jew that protests
by killing people.

The Jews don't traffic slaves, nor have leaders calling for Jihad and
death to all the Infidels.

Perhaps the world's Muslims should consider investing more in
standard education and less in blaming the Jews for all their problems.

Muslims must ask 'what can they do for humankind' before they demand
that humankind respect them.

Regardless of your feelings about the crisis between Israel
and the Palestinians and Arab neighbors, even if you believe there is more
culpability on Israel's part, the following two sentences really say it all:

" If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be
no more Israel !" -- Benjamin Netanyahu

if Israel could steal the Sun and charge for the light they would.

You need to learn more about the Bible and here is an assist for you:

FALSE CLAIMS AND CHALLENGES BY ONE NOT KNOWING THE FACTS:

FOURTH, I see no evidence for your false claim that Israel is a facist entity. In fact, all available evidence shows exactly the opposite – get real.

FIFTH, So what difference does it make what Herzel a politician wanted to do?

SIXTH, Why should the Hebrews (Jews) settle any where else than on their own Land?

SEVENTH, Muslims now control over 98% of the middle east, yet they are so greedy that they even want the less than two percent (%) that belongs to their brother tribe, the Hebrews – how greedy can you get?
